We've seen the PC males tear into each other over mating rights, so it's not out of the question that they will scuffle with each other. And we have seen that they are particularly affectionate fathers when it comes to interacting with their offspring.

But we haven't seen them interact with the Tsalala lioness since she mated with the bigger-maned male. So it's a bit of a coin flip whether it will go positively or negatively. I think that's why we're waiting with bated breath.

@RookiePundit The old Manghenis and the Bboy daughter were/are big, but I don't think the Majingilane daughters are.

Ximhungwe female is big, Othawa Breakaway is pretty small.

@Mdz123 If the bigger PCM was to defend the cubs ( big if ), that wouldn't stop his brother from killing the cubs in a later opportunity. It happened before with the Mapogo.

@Ttimemarti we don't know if Tinyo mated with Tsalala's mother or not, in fact, him defending her is evidence that he did, males usually join their pride in attacking females they don't know, but are known to break fights between their different prides.

Also dominance changes day by day, throughout most of their lives, Makhunga was the most dominant, he dominated mating rights with all their females, from NK Breakaways, to Manghenis, to Ximhungwe, to Tsalala, to K6. Smaller male only won over the NK once or twice.

@Duco Ndona I agree the PCM are bad pride males, but they are not in fault for the killing of the first NK Breakaway female and we don't know if they were close enough to potentially save the second one but choose not to.

They couldn't have possibly done anything the first time as Manghenis met NK Breakaways in a kill and killed the female there, PCM were nowhere near them.

@BA0701

Mapogos didn't allow Mr.T to kill the cubs, one waa injured during a feeding frenzy and the other 2 killed when the fathers weren't allowed.

This vid has been posted before but it shows Mr.T being kept away from the cub by Dreadlocks and PB:

The photographer says in the description that Mr.T respected them and didn't come any closer but later found the cub alone and killed them.

@Mapokser , thank you for explaining that. I was always of the impression that the others didn't necessarily permit him to kill them, "allowed" being a poor choice of words in my comment, but that they didn't intervene. So, then Brothers in Blood actually had the narrative pretty accurate in how they described it. Thank you, again, now it makes more sense.

What do they mean by 4? There are only 3 females, maybe a mistake?

Gijima Daughter above looks just like the darker maned male!!  Really strong resemblance as compared to his partner.

Nkuhuma and Talamati. Would really be nice to see things work out in the end for these two, especially for the Nkuhuma male given what's happened previously when it comes to forming a coalition with another male lion. Time will eventually tell one way or the other.

Was beginning to think where these two had wondered off too. Seems they’ve been following the buffalo to all ends of Sabi Sands.

This is probably the coalition that will determine the direction of rest of Nkuhuma male's life. He finally has a big, strong, confident young male with him and they seem pretty bonded too. If he can't stick it out with this, he'll always just always be a loner.

I dont think this will stick either, atleast not in Sabi Sands.

Thru last year, NK was with Tumbela, 2 Talamatis few times, Skorro Breakaway, again Tumbela, and now again lone Talamati.

And story goes the same way every time, its all sunshine until they start roaring and face territorial males for 1st time, then they get chased, separated and just move on.

Those coalitions are too short together to pose a threat to powerful coalitions like Gijimas, Ndhzengas, PCMs, Nkhulus and even Kambulas at this point.

You need years of bonding for that, and its not like these adult nomads will build up bond and teamplay for 1-2 years and then make a move.

Coalitions like this, made of 2 or more random adult nomads, almost never work, for longer period.

For that to work, you need bonding from early nomadic stages, when they link at 3 to 4 yrs of age (what NK had with Styx, what Mongawane or Orpen males had).

And even those are quite rare. Theres nothing like bonding from 1st day together.
