Looks like 1 more is missing.

Seems one is either separated or went missing in last few days or so.    All 11 were accounted for on 10 August

Mangheni 12 all over again.

I wish the Manghenis had good, reliable pride males like the Gijimas instead of PCM who only have aggression going on for them.

I don't even know how #10 is still alive, but it's gonna be near impossible to reach independence and adulthood being in this situation while being only 1yo.

And even if he and his 2 remaining brothers miraculously make it, it'll be much tougher trying to be successful with only 3 males instead of 5.

Its not, atleast not yet, as adult females are with them.

Maybe the young male lion is wondering around. There was a young male lion not with them then appeared.

Thats a pity, the whole thing just feels like a miscommunication.
Still. Its not unusual for young lions to get split for a while. So perhaps they will show up later.

I don't think this is some kind of Mangheni12 situation. Far from it.
Its pretty normal for young lions to die one way or another and the Mangheni have already done wonderful job raising them so far.
The pride is still largely intact and if the Tumbella situation resolves itself positively, have a very good shot on raising several of cubs to adulthood.

I am also not as pessimistic about the young males. The perfect coalition size seems to be around 2 a 3 lions. With lots of duos currently showing that you don't need big numbers to play big games and several bigger groups being a let-down due to infighting and freeloading.
So with 3 they are in a very good position.

Problem is that all these issues started when the PCM abandoned the pride and 2 of the females died. So down to only 3 females without pride males, they are very vulnerable and in a short period of time, lost 3 cubs, if they lost 3 cubs so quickly, things don't look good for the remaining 7.

Yeah I also believe coalitions of 3 are usually better than let's say 5 or 6, but that's assuming all 3 would reach adulthood. 4 Nkuhumas reached adulthood and they even had their fathers with them, but now are down to 2 and haven't even established themselves yet.

I’m sure the official video will get posted soon, I can’t send it in here as it’s on Savanna IG story, yet Tumbela has been seen for the first time bonding with the cubs. Well a cub. So comfortable with each other infact that the one cub, which looked like one of the males, then lay down by Tumbela with zero aggression in sight. Even the females weren’t surrounding them, making sure of the cubs safety. I can imagine this has happpened a few times already.

Side note, it’s interesting that while Makhunga was with the two Othawa lionesses, he also come into contact with the Mhangeni Pride. Tumbela was with the Mhangenis for these interactions and although I don’t think Makhunga realised his presence, they were extremely close to each other. Close enough to hear vocalising. It does seem like they have 100% abandoned Mhangenis. Fortunately for them, the only male who could be a consistent threat to their current cubs, has accepted them.

At this rate, it looks like Skorro Jr is on his way to becoming a pride male again.

Dont think that will happen, given his health problems.

He is not acting territorial. But it goes a bit further than just stalking them for scraps.

I dont think this behavoir is documented enough to have a proper label yet.

The cub playing with Tumbela was the youngest one, the Mapogo grandson.

I'm not sure what to think exactly about Tumbela's situation, he eats much of their food which sucks and I doubt he would offer any protection, maybe against a big hyena clan.

I doubt he'd even be useful as a bait in case some males attacked, his limp isn't as bad he can't outrun some small cubs.

Only way I can see him being useful for the pride and not just a burden is if he recovers fully enough to take over the southwest abanoned by PCM, and then can offer some protection, still, considering how NK/Talamati are around in Sabi Sands, he wouldn't be able to do anything against them, and they'd kill all the cubs easily.

Only hope for Manghenis would be trouble for Ximungwes and Othawas, meaning they'd oust these prides to stay close to PCM-patrolling territory so even if PCM don't visit them, they'd be close by and other males would be unlikely to attack them.

I believe he was observed helping in hunts. Frankly, as he is not patrolling he should be present to any hunting attempts on buffalo at least, when he could be of significant help. Granted he would then eat his share but would be more than just a freeloader. And as bizarre as it seems, he might even fulfill a babysitting duties.
