That is because of male lion dynamics. Before there were Tumbela males and ealier Matimba male to protect Othawa pride and Keep Mhangeni pride at bay. Now dynamics are different, not only Othawa pride does not have any protection, but even will be pressured by the now dominant in the arena PC males.

Mhangenis in the past, when they were dominated by Othawa males were showing intrest in Othawa pride terriotory, venturing there here and there. Now, at current dynamic it is perfect opportunity to takeover this piece of land and I feel they will go for it. Also spot on which Mhangenis were recently with PC males (Leopard Hills) is also pointing out in that dirrection.

Lions don't just take over land for the sake of conquering land. Their hold of the land is dictated by their needs. As long they have sufficient access to safety, densites food and water. They aren't going to expand their territory. Especially into areas they know is occupied by rival groups.

Furthermore the further west they go, the more the protection of the PCmales diminishes. Dropping down from a near constant presence to just the occasionally trips out of curiosity. A pride isn't going to drag cubs into a potential warzone unless they know for sure they have the backing of males.

Remainder, that both Othawas and Mhangenis where under same coalition back in the day, Majingilanes, who ruled whole western sector and Singita.

And Mhangenis always had numbers over Othawas, heck, some time was even 4 vs 2, and Mhangenis never overtook Othawas territory.

Mhangenis where always seen in western sector, since they become territorial pride almost 10 years ago, so seeing them now there with PC males is nothing new or unusual. They where there with Majingilanes, with OM and will be with PC males also.

They also had no competition in Singita, 2 Nkuhuma breakaway females are barely a threat to them, so there is no reason for them to fully move into western sector.

Things will prob stay as they where, Mhangenis being under PC males now wont change that, as their territory/routes are pretty much the same as PC males territory.

I expect PC males to also switch their focus into that arena, with the new females to mate with they will probably stick to Mhangeni pride and won't care too much about Nkuchuma breakaways anymore.

1. That was very long time ago. That Mhangeni pride showed no intrests in Othawa's terriotry doesn't mean such dynamics will remain forever. Same was for example with Othawa and Ximunghwe pride which coexisted for years at at such point thinks has changed, circumstances changed similarly as it is now.
2. That Majingilanes were dominant over both prides is aspect which would prevent fighting between those two prides.

No, that is further west than arena on which Mhangeni pride mostly operated through out the years, that is what used to be territory of Othawa pride.

Nkuchuma females are not threat for Mhangeni pride, but PC males could stop Mhangeni females from atacking Nkuchumas. I believe it is more likely Mhangeni will opt for taking over Othawa's territory.

The reason why the Ximhungwe and Othawas went at it is becouse the Ximhungwes kept seeking out the Othawas pridemales for mating and were eliminated one by one by othawas. But even before that there were clashes as the two groups competed over the same foodsources at times.

None of this is the case with the Mhangeni. They already have a large territory. There is just no motive for them to want more land. No motive no expansion, no invasions.

@Potato
Mhangenis have massive territory, which almost all is under PC males territory, there is absolutely no reason to abandon that and move into smaller western sector, part of which, they already own.

Also, your statement that 2 prides under same coalition dont fight, its completley false, its opposite, as pride will not dare to fight neigbouring pride if that pride has other dominant males, but when 1 coalition rules multiple prides, nothing prevents those prides to fight, meaning that often bigger pride overpowers the smaller pride, as we saw in many examples like with Othawas vs Ximhungwes, Tsalalas vs Mhangenis and later Kambulas, Kambulas vs Spartas and now similar thing is happening with Kambulas vs Styx's, etc.
