Yesterday 5-year-old T-83 aka Lightening (sister of Arrowhead & daughter of T-19 Krishna) was shifted from Ranthambore's to Mukundara Hills tiger reserve.

Now renamed MT-4, she was “soft released” into a 28-hectare enclosure stocked with prey & water. Tranquilized from Ranth at 6:30 in the morning, she was at MHTR via road by afternoon after health check-up & radio collaring.

They probably want cubs ASAP as MT-2 & MT-3 are both too young, but Mirza & Lightening are of breeding age, both are fertile & has cubs before. Also she's a bit timid & getting bullied by the others.

Before T-98 (now MT-3) was identified, everybody thought it was T-110 that was moving towards MHTR.

But now while he had reached the safety of Darrah core area, this one (as of April 2019) is stuck in fringe forests at the Hadoti region of Rajasthan between Ranthambore, Mukundara & Kuno-Palpur. They're still planning on moving him to Seljar Range of MHTR but the area still isn't ready with local refusing rehabilitation package & cattle grazing etc.

So far, four big cats, two male and two female, have been shifted to MHTR or Darrah (jawahar sagar) or Seljar Tiger Reserve in Hadauti of Malwa plateau from RTR. The first phrase of tiger re-introduction into MHTR, approved by National Tiger Conservation Authority [NTCA] in July 2018, is now complete.

let’s hope this actually works, it doesn’t seem well planned out at all. I’m glad Durga’s girls weren’t considered. they are better off not being used an experiment.

Not that straightforward decision. Unlike her successful sister Arrowhead, she was struggling a lot.

They're saying she is a bit timid in nature & her territory was already pressed small, on top of that, was getting dominated by her neighbours.
She was chased out once in 2016, but didn't have an explorer in her. Instead she fell in a well...

...her cubs born last year both died too. Apparently she may have had to abandon them.

A younger tigress would simply move out to the peripheries of Ranth but because she'd already settled, she was reluctant to leave.

Lightening couldn't catch a break! Now that she has, i'm fairly satisfied with the decision.

Her presence would benefit Mukundara too, with both tourists following her there & cubs. MT-1 is wasting time with MT-2, she isn't of breeding age yet.

Ranthambore Tiger T-75 shifted to Sariska National park

*This image is copyright of its original author

Ranthambore National Park tiger T-75 was shifted to the Sariska National Park on Monday. He will be known as ST – 16 at Sariska. This is the fourth male tiger at the reserve.

According to the forest officials, Tiger T-75 is seven years old Prime male and is the cub of Tigress T- 17 ‘Sundari’ and Tiger T-25 ‘Dollar’ (One of the best father in the world - Tiger's heart who cared and nurtured two cubs of tigress T-5 after her death).

The step has been taken to increase the tiger population at Sariska. Tiger T-75 is a mature tiger and is completely ready for mating. Sariska has faced a loss in its tiger population after the death of ST -11, added officials.

Quote:The forest department officials tranquilized Tiger T-75 for the shifting. He is being currently kept in enclosures and will soon be released into the reserve, said an officer.

The tiger relocation from Ranthambore to Sariska was scheduled for April 6 but some legal procedures and decisions took some time.

A two-member team from NTCA and WII visited Ranthambore on April 1 to inspect and oversee the preparations for the tiger shifting.

The team picked five tigers aged between 4 and 7 years for the relocation. The officials then selected Tiger T-75 for the relocation.

The forest department officials including principal chief conservator GV Reddy, Ranthambore field Director YK Sahu, and DFO Mukesh Saini gave a go-ahead to the proposal after getting approval from the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and Wild Life Institute (WII).

Recently, Tigress T-83 was relocated to Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve from Ranthambore National Park on Friday morning.

Tigress T-83 was popularly known as ‘Lightning’ at Ranthambore. She is named MT-4 at Mukundra.

He is small for a 7-years-old.

With only one male St-2, St-3, St-7, St-8, St-9 don't have a mate in Sariska right now.

@Rishi hmm... smaller than expected. I see...

the cubs resulting from this male and those females of sariska will get smaller size trait genes from paternal side. So, if big tigers are produced in sariska then females genes are to be appreciated.

Not necessarily... He's the son of T-25 & T-17 after all.
Although he himself is of tigress size, probably as low as 170 kg, males of his progeny may be like their granduncle (came across a Wikipedia page of Ustad, that said: Officially weighing 258 kg on forest department paperwork on May 16, 2015 on an empty stomach,...)

We have numerous weights for Ustaad, but 258 would be the first I've heard and we already have confirmation of 240kg from the Vet on site when he had is digestive issues then he weighed less both times after that when he was captured and then in the captive headquarters as well.

Do you have any more info on the 258kg claim?

Romeo weighing 170kg is also very questionable, we had this discussion a long time back here https://wildfact.com/forum/topic-raja-th...an-500-lbs
If you take a look at #14 post you'll see what they say about the method of weighing used.
Most of those translocation weights seem a little odd tbh.

No, it was just the wiki page. I didn't see though all the citations though, but the content is pretty detailed otherwise.

Actually it's also says "estimated to be up to 270 kg (596 lbs) by a local biologist" but i didn't wanna open that can of worms.
