There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

The Matimba coalition

Blog for September/October 2018.

The Matimba males have been following the Ottawa pride constantly, and as they are nearing the end of their reign, it seems that the only thing that they are interested in is getting free food. They have accepted the cubs, whose fathers were the Majingilane, as their own, and do not roam their territory far and wide to check for intruders. They are content to follow the females and take over any of the kills that they happen to make. This seems to be quite a good strategy, as they are still looking in fairly good condition.

@George greek it might have been the Majingilanes you were thinking of, when HB was double or triple teamed and copped some wounds on the spine and hindquarters, he took a very long time to recover from.

Hi George, I read back to that time you refer to and I see what you mean. Well, it only increases my respect for both of these coalitions, the incredible duo, and the aggressive young trio. So then here's a pic of Hairy Belly with one of the Othawa lionesses. Image by Eric Pham, November 23, 2018

They are pressumed to be born late 2005 or early 2006 so they are about exactly 13 years old.

"For sure" is a strong word considering no one knows when they were born.

Like Abomai and Potato said, their estimate age is of 12 to 13 years old. You need to remember they were younger than the Majingilane males.
