There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Or more closely, the "black-maned" Cape lion which inhabited South Africa, had a belly-covering mane like its Northwest African relative (the Barbary lion), and might be closely related to the extant Kruger and Kalahari lions of Southern Africa: http://www.tigertouch.org/documents/barbarycape.pdf, http://lionalert.org/page/lion_genetics, https://www.thoughtco.com/cape-lion-1093061, https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5...S_20180602.

Ginger's mange looks worse than ever. These males are pretty much unparalleled when it comes to the relentless will to survive against all odds.

Throwback from Londolozi

"The Matimba males, although impressively large, had no surviving offspring on Londolozi."

James Tyrrell
"There is quite a bit of variation in size amongst male lions. For example, the Matimba males were massive; significantly bigger than the Majingilane (or so they appeared)…"

There are reports on some FaceBook pages that Ginger Matimba has died.

I hope the last of his cubs make it. Hairy Belly stands as the last of the great Matimbas.

Saddening news, this was a legendary male Lion and he has passed on, I hope he didn't suffer too much in his final days. R.I.P. my king.
