Mangheni Pride

For the Mangheni he is a net negative. They cant chase him off and for now they trust him not to kill the cubs. But seeing he hangs with them all the time, which is something a pride male should not do, they will try to give him the slip if possible.

I dont see a future for him as a pride male. Once the Mangheni return to Estrus, the PCmales will likely renew their interest in them. Tumbella would have no choice than to leave if he doesnt want to die.

I dont think the situation is comparable with dreadlocks, nomadic male lions are much more likely to condone and join other lions than territorial prides with cubs.
I think this is somewhat comparable with the Gijima sparing the Southern pride cubs, or the Tumbellas sparing the Othawa cubs, or the Tumbellas sparing the Ximhungwe cubs, or the majingilane sparing the Ximhungwe cubs. Just the young age of the cubs and their assertive behavoir towards Tumbella is odd. Even in his weakened state, he had plenty of opportunities to lash out.

Perhaps its time to concider the whole instinctual cub killing thing lions are famous for a myth? It clearly is not as straight forward as the biology books suggest.

Isn't there a chance of the PCMs, already months apart from the Mangheni pride and their cubs, when seeing a male lion with lots of lionesses and cubs, associate those cubs as not theirs and kill them?

That would largely depend on the circumstances around the new takeover.

I don’t believe so, the cubs are over a year old and the PCMs have fully accepted them. If they had newer cubs that had just been born and maybe didn’t interact with them as much, or at all, then I can see them possibly killing their own cubs.

The pride wouldn’t back Tumbela if he was to get attacked rn by both PCMs, no matter how keen they might be on him recently. PCMs have zero reason to attack their own lionesses and cubs, well former lionesses but uno what I mean.

@Duco Ndona Well if all the cubs survive until the females get back to estrus then the hardest part of the job will be done and the cubs will be independent already so the Tumbela situation will be mostly irrelevant in this scenario.

As for cub killing, for me while the situation is odd, it's clear why he didn't kill the cubs, he wouldn't be accepted by the females if he tried and he was too weak to take over, he limps and was injured and in poor condition, he needed to follow them and be accepted to feed and recover so that's what he did.

Once they spend a lot of time together they got used to each other so they started seeing each other as pride mates, meaning he likely won't kill the cubs even if he gets better and has opportunities.

If he was in good condition with a drive to perhaps become dominant again like he was with Nkuhuma, he'd for sure kill the cubs given the chance.

But anyway thanks to him at least 2 cubs died as the pride entered Kambula territory to avoid him, another one mysteriously disappeared short after, so maybe now that they accepted him, if they meet Kambula pride without Ndhzengas, maybe his presence would be useful. That and dealing with hyenas aside, he'll just be a burden.

There were also reports that Skorro Jr was running with the Manghenis, away from whatever they were running from, and there were also some who said the Nwas were also involved. So, I think to state as fact that he caused the deaths of 2 cubs has no factual basis. It may be what happened, just as easily as any of the other reported scenarios may be as well.

I agree with the fact it seems like a very harsh statement, especially given the fact it was reported Tumbela, along with the whole pride, were sent running further into Londolozi after Khanya and NK chased them. Regardless of who sent the pride running or who even killed the cubs (most likely Ndzengas), we should all agree this was on the PCMs. They abandoned the pride and couldn’t protect their offspring when they needed them the most.

@BA0701 It was reported that the pride entered Kambula territory while trying to get rid of Tumbela but I've just remembered that it was also speculated that they might have been fleeing NK and Talamati.

Ultimately, in truth, the PCM are to "blame", they didn't offer protection until the cubs were at least independent.

I dont think there ever was an active chase or anything that drastic.

They were already dealing with Tumbella so when Nym and Talamati also entered also the region, the Mangheni decided to move to what they hoped was a less male populated area. .
Unfortunatly this happened to be an area where the Talamati also happened to be present. Resulting in the clash.

Tumbella just followed them and rejoined them, while Nym and Talamati probably never even noticed the pride that day.

The Plains Camp Males have finally returned to the Mangheni Pride. First, they chased Tumbela away then joined them on a Buffalo kill
