Intriguing turn of events here. The fact it comes at a time when the Northern Black Dams have been pushing into Monwana Pride territory and laying down a direct challenge to Mapoza Male, could the arrival of their southern brother throw things up in the air? Not implying it will but this could turn out to be an unwelcome distraction for the boys and possibly buy Monwanas more time.

I was wondering the same thing, if his arrival wasn't a bit ill-timed, given all his brothers are currently dealing with. Obviously, it couldn't be helped from his perspective, but the timing might be really bad. It is an interesting thing to see, though, especially on what their reactions might be to him. But also, if they were to accept him, which I believe the chances are low at the moment, he could possibly lead them south, in SS, and with them bring a ton of chaos into an already chaotic situation, as well. If Southern Black Dam would approach his brothers while they would be with Avoca pride and their cubs, then I think both males and females would be very hostise towards upcomming male as he would be danger to the Avoca cubs. On the other hand if he would approach his brothers further north in empty land there is no direct reason for Northern Black Dams to atack the Southern Black Dam male else than simply not recognizing him or just don't want him back into the coalition. Puting this short I believe if there is a chance for Southern Black Dam males to get back with his brothers, it is in Monwana pride territory (northern part of the reserve), not in the southern part of the reserve. It wouldn’t make sense for his brothers to follow him South, and like u said that would be dependant on him getting accepted himself meaning he too would be a pride male. Him travelling that distance prolly means he knows something about his brother that we don’t. Is he dead, possibly or was he too ill to be a reliable partner as he couldn’t keep up. I’m someone who believes we truly don’t know how lions think. But it doesn’t seem to be a coincidence how he left Sabi Sands and heads straight for his brothers. No they will definitely it follow him that far south maybe if it was closer but definitely not all the way to sabi sands and if they did my goodness it would not be good but this is why I am very eager to see what happens because as we all know when limper tumbela died skorro jr return home as well so did the bigger southern black dam male so I’m 95% sure his brother is gone just don’t know what happened and interesting enough he couldn’t teamed up with the talamati male but he chose to go back to to find his brothers after I believe someone said it’s been two years so he remembers

The Limping Monwana male is no more. They found his body surrounded by hyenas but the exact cause of his death is unknown if my understanding is correct. Sad to see, but obviously not surprising given the condition he was seen in lately.

I hope his was, at least, a quiet death, if anyone deserved such a passing it was him. Now he may rest, his suffering finally over. He surprised everyone with his resilience and will to live and lasted far longer than anyone could have hoped for. He can rest easy now.
Tanda Tula update
After the wonderful lion cub viewing last week, I missed out on the cubs this week. They were found one morning, but I was already with members of the River Pride, so decided to leave it for the afternoon – bad choice, as by the time the afternoon drive came, the mother had left the cubs unattended and we missed out on our chance to see them. The Sark Breakaways were around for a few days this week, and we kick started the week with a great sighting as 14 members of the pride came walking down the road straight past the vehicle, giving my guests a sighting they wont forget in a hurry. Later in the week the pride was found finishing off a zebra kill in the west. The River pride were around for several days this week, but they didn’t make it easy for us. The reason became evident later in the week when two lionesses were followed down into one of the river beds, and the guide that was following them got a glimpse of a brand new lion cub – the youngest lioness had given birth! As the cub was still tiny, he left the mother in peace, and we shall continue to give her space around the den for the next several weeks until she starts bringing the cubs out on her own accord. From the audio, it apparently sounded like there were at least a couple more cubs hidden away. We ended the week finding the pride with fat bellies and the remains of a zebra kill just a few hundred metres from camp – their presence was not being enjoyed by the elephants that were constantly trumpeting at them!  *This image is copyright of its original author The Vuyela males were around here and there, but not as much as we have come to expect; and even when they were around, their reliably roaring shows didn’t bear fruit this week. There were tracks for the Birmingham Breakaways and a Mayambula lioness in the south east a couple of times this week, but we had no joy in finding them since they were seen at a small pan last weekend. |
