The Kruger male was seen with the S8 male which was not a violent interaction. They seem to recognise each other.

What?

The lion prides of the Kruger area were spotted over 100 times in November across the Arathusa property, with our guests witnessing a few incredible kill scenes! Some of our older lions have died, allowing for new life to follow in the future.

Torchwood Pride – 7 sightings
The Torchwood pride have been very active around Buffelshoek, and have been seen with the Kruger male, and were seen killing and feasting on a giraffe!

Nkuhuma Pride – 22 sightings
This pride is thriving and have been putting on a show for our guests, and dramatically killed a buffalo quite close to the lodge which was an excellent viewing opportunity. The Nkuhuma females with the 7 cubs have been spending a lot of time in Mala Mala, where they will keep them safe until they are a bit bigger.

Talamati Pride – 29 sightings and S8 Male – 23 sightings
In spectacular fashion, the Talamati pride killed 5 sub-adult buffalo in November, which gave us excellent sightings of them over the course of a week.

Avoca Males – 19 sightings
Unfortunately Blondie and Dark Mane have passed on. It was believed that Blondie had TB and Dark Mane succumbed to his injuries after an earlier goring from the buffalo.
He was found with hyenas feeding on him.
From our guides:  “we tracked the hyenas to the lion carcass – a dead carnivore does not smell good! Nothing goes to waste, and these carcasses will help the younger hyena cubs grow strong.“
Mohawk is now by himself and has been showing signs of loneliness. He has been seen vocalising and searching for his brothers.
“These lions were born and raised together and have gone through everything together so when they get left alone, they are not sure why. We can see he is still looking for his brother Blondie.”

Kruger male – 1 sighting

Nice report.

The above quotation is heartbreaking. Hopefully Mohawk could move forward successfully.

I remember the two Black Dam males who entered Sabi Sands a week ago. Wondering where they are now?

Male lions can meet eachother without beating eachother up if they want to and there is nothing worth fighting over. One meeting does not make a coalition.

I am worried about Mohawk however. That behavoir does not sound like a lion that is comfortable in his own skin right now. The contact calling is an open invitation for any group looking for solo males to ambush.

Unless he gets it together I cannot see him holding on to his territory for long.

Big news!

Mohawk Avoca, who recently lost both his brothers, was chased by 2 BDM's today on northern Sabi Sands/ MalaMala border :

Concerning news for Mohawk, he is alone vs 2, 5 yrs old males, "intimidation" will not work against them anymore, so if they decide to stick here and push for his territory, there is not much he can do.

That was quick.

I wonder how these two shape up against the PCmales.
A strong coalition there could afteral force those two to focus on western sector again.

PC males territory spans from western sector, thru Singita (which is their core) to western Londolozi, them hanging somewhere inside their territory has nothing to do with N. Avocas and dynamics in northern Sabi Sands.

Also, those reports from western Londolozi are from the end of last month, after that they where seen again in western sector mating with Ximhungwe, those where last updates on PC males, nothing this month from neither Londolozi or western sector, so i assume they are hanging in Singita.

So yea, PC males not being in western sector atm has nothing to do with N. Avocas being down to 1, as there is no report that they are close to Mohawks territory, which would be Simbambili/Elephant Plains. When they are east, in western Londolozi, their neighbours are 4 Ndhzengas, not Mohawk, who is further north.

These Black dam males are causing havoc everywhere. Glad to hear they're still there. Looking good and healthy, let's see what will do Mohawk, numbers isn't on his side.

Already roaring.

Not looking good for Mohawk, he might get ousted by his own blood, they are half brothers in a way, sired by Avoca/Giraffe brothers, although not the same males.

Yupp.
All six BDMs were sired by lone giraffe male ( b. 2010- d.2020). He was younger brother of Brutus & gang.
