Not all males are the same, there is no "golden rule" which says that all males are "ready" to become territorial and fight other males at age of 4 - 4.5. Some males overtake territory at 4, some at 5,6 and some never develop confidence to fight other territorial males for territory. I still would not call BDM's fully territorial males, but they are in proccess of becoming ones soon. As for fights with Mohawk and Amahle, we dont know what exactly happened to judge did BDM's waste opportunity or not. The father of the Black dam males is the youngest Giraffe male born in 2011. The Avoca/Giraffe males (his older brothers) made a coalition between them. The Giraffe male born in 2011 was slighlty younger than the others and spent most of his time on his own (Altough he was seen with the others males often). When Thornybush fence was dropped, he took-over the Black dam pride and fathered numerous litter of cubs. The last ive heard something like this was the black rock boys from the mara did not allow their two younger brothers in to their established pride.
