There are many prides split right now. The Talamati are split in two, as far as we know the Torchwood pride is split, the Nkuhuma pride is split in three and the Kambula pride is split in three. There is a lot of instability in the prides of Sabi Sands.

Any thoughts Peter? Would you be okay with us opening threads for individual, well-followed Prides?

Up to our lion mods Lycaon, BAO and Timbavati (see 9,102), but I tend to agree with Potato (9,105): if we add threads about specific prides, the result could be a mess. Remember this thread already has over 600 pages (...).

What readers, apart from content, appreciate most of all is overview: they want to know what's where and how to get there in an easy way. For this reason, our aim is to limit the number of clicks.

I do, however, like the proposal. Documentaries about specific prides often draw a crowd and I'm quite sure it would work for a forum as well. The question is how to do it without creating an inpenetrable jungle.

Talking about a jungle. The lion section has many long threads. Not one of them has a table of contents, meaning readers interested in a specific individual or coalition have no option but to start at the beginning. We could do with a bit more overview (referring to a table of content for every thread), but I know it's a big ask.

I would like this as well

Western and Southern sectors are seemingly the only stable areas of the whole reserve. I feel like Sabi Sands is about to go through a dramatic change in dynamics because of how unstable and split the prides you mentioned are.

They might be reffering to 2 Kambula females who are with N'ws (i dont see any other possibility).

I think its mostly a reaction from the prides to the arrival of the N'was and PCmales and a perceived decline in their resident males,

Once Nhenha and the cubs are gone, the Kambulas will probably merge again. But I am not surewhat's up with the Avocas. They seem to either not know or care that the PCmales are seriously sawing on the legs of their chair.
Perhaps they are sick or are having confidence issues?

The Nkuhumas have realized this and have been preparing for a potential take over by mating with the new groups aswell. However since the Avocas will likely still be around.for a while. It is likely that the cubs will be introduced to them aswell. If they are fooled into accepting them the pride will likely merge again. If not, we may get a more permanent split.

The Talamatis are likely having the same trouble with the ailing DM.

Avocas have no issues with PC males, its not their fault that 2 females left their territory and move west to find new males for next generation.

All those prides have almost adult subadults, thats another reason why those prides are splitting a lot. When those subadult females become ready to mate and produce cubs, and young subadult males leave the pride, those prides will again become stable, as those subadult females will settle in 1 area and raise cubs.

Some prides will definitely split, as they are too big to sustain, such as Kambula pride, Kambula breakeaway will form 100%. As for Nkuhumas and Talamatis, i think that depends of Avocas and how long will their still be dominant in northern Sabi Sands, its hard to predict, if they stay dominant and splitting 2 Nkuhuma and 3 Talamati females raise cubs with new males, those prides will also split, those splitting females will not rejoin or accept their past members if they are raising cubs under different coalition.

Torchwoods currently on Nkorho cam, some of them getting close to sub-adult stage now.

Seems only 1 cub of the three from the previous newest litter remains, it has a stump tail. Of the newest litter of four only 1 was present, but the mother left the pan and headed north, maybe to retrieve the other 3.

New cub

Yes.  That’s the same little cub that got separated from the Pride last week.   Seems he has been nursing that slight limp for a few weeks.   Hope it can make a full recovery and stay in contact

Talamatis still in western sector, hope they return back, such a big pride in the area will cause trouble for smaller Othawa pride and their cubs, also DM Avoca is alone now:
