There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

Please let me know if Quiet Eagle is considered an acceptable video source.  I've seen nothing crazy on their site.

This is Mohawk and Nkuhumas after the Black Dams chased them.  They are apparently now just across the river from S8 and the Talamati BA's.

@Mapokser

Not all males are the same, there is no "golden rule" which says that all males are "ready" to become territorial and fight other males at age of 4 - 4.5.

Some males overtake territory at 4, some at 5,6 and some never develop confidence to fight other territorial males for territory.

I still would not call BDM's fully territorial males, but they are in proccess of becoming ones soon.

As for fights with Mohawk and Amahle, we dont know what exactly happened to judge did BDM's waste opportunity or not.

The father of the Black dam males is the youngest Giraffe male born in 2011. The Avoca/Giraffe males (his older brothers) made a coalition between them. The Giraffe male born in 2011 was slighlty younger than the others and spent most of his time on his own (Altough he was seen with the others males often). When Thornybush fence was dropped, he took-over the Black dam pride and fathered numerous litter of cubs. For more information about them have a look in the Timbavati thread

At that thime there were 7 young males born into Giraffe pride with some age differences. 2 oldest left natal pride first. They tookover Avoca pride, were renamed by guides into "new Avoca males", later "old Avoca males". They sired there males later known as "Southern Avocas" and "Northern Avocas". Later on 4 other left natal pride and joined their 2 older brother. That coalition was refered to as "Avoca/Giraffe coalition". The 7th, youngest male left natal pride as last, moved into Thornybush were he tookover Black Dam pride and sired current 6 Black Dam males.

Lonolozi blog did an update on the Tsala Lioness
https://blog.londolozi.com/2023/03/27/an..._lions_569

Also interesting pictures and take on the Sand River and just how much they are unable to get vehicles around at the moment to track the animals.

That is really interesting that the two older brothers whom already established as dominant pride males accepted their younger brothers. Ive never heard of it before.

The last ive heard something like this was the black rock boys from the mara did not allow their two younger brothers in to their established pride. Fast forward presently the two younger brothers are now black rocker boys with a friend chased and tried to beat/kill one of their older brother.
