That's very very bad news indeed. Doesn't look poached though... parts intact. Does the news say he died 15 days ago?

@Rishi gujarati news said that when tiger body found it's body was already decomposing and may be it had died about 3 to 5 days back but the fd found the body today and so the news surfaced. i don't think tiger's death is natural as it is prime aged male, there are tigers to infight, no wounds, not poached. reasons left are lack of food and poisoning of prey carcass by the villagers as he is actively predating on livestock these days. i also doubt tiger has conflict with villagers coz he migrated through dense human presence to reach gujarat without getting much attention and no human fatalities. i think tiger had died of starvation (in the video ccf too expecting the same but wanted to confirm that through postmortem report. fd is still investigation. let's wait to know what happened actually. this is the end of "mangal bava" named gujarat tiger. in the video i'm unable to see his testicles.

Gujarat’s rendezvous with tiger ends, big cat found dead in Mahisagar forest

Highlights
  • Vadodara chief conservator of forests (CCF) S K Shrivastava says the carcass was found around 12km away from the place where it was spotted the last time on camera last week.
  • Initial reports suggested that one of the front legs of the tiger was missing, raising strong suspicion of poaching.

The fortnight of excitement over tiger sighting in Gujarat has turned out to be short-lived as the big cat was found dead in the forest area of Mahisagar district on Tuesday.

Much to the shock of the forest officials, the tiger’s decomposed body was found in the forest near Signali in the district at around 5pm.

Vadodara chief conservator of forests S K Shrivastava told TOI that the carcass was found around 12km away from the place where it was spotted the last time on camera last week.

Rajeev Gupta, additional chief secretary, forests and environment, told TOI: “As per the primary information that we have received, the tiger died before two or three days (@Rishi, I said that yesterday that tiger might have dead 3-5 days ago). However, all four legs and nails were in tact.”

“The viscera and other body parts have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to ascertain the exact cause of its death,” he said.

Initial reports suggested that one of the front legs of the tiger was missing, raising strong suspicion of poaching.

Unbelievable! 200 lions died in 2017-18 & now this...
Hand them over to Kuno. MP will show you how is done! Ovie Agege

The male tiger was around 5-7 years old and it had crossed over into Gujarat from adjoining Madhya Pradesh. It was on February 6 that a local schoolteacher had photographed it crossing the road near Boriya village. The forest department had installed trap cameras following the sighting and it was captured in one of them, around two km from Santrampur, on February 12.

Since the local population as well as forest department officials did not have any experience in handling a tiger, a massive awareness drives for its employees as well; as villagers was carried out.

Fearing that poachers may be seeing an opportunity to kill the tiger, the department had stepped up its interaction with villagers and had asked them to inform officials in case they saw any suspicious person.

Villagers were also advised that they should not disclose the location of the tiger to anyone.

If it was the front leg, that's definitely a wire-snare injury. 100%

Haha...

A post-mortem is being carried out as per protocol, confirmed sources.

Mahesh Mahera, a school teacher, had first seen the tiger in early February. It was a moment of joy for the department because a tiger had made it to Gujarat after three decades, making it the only state to have all the three big cats. Reacting to the news of the tiger’s death, Mahera said, “I am shocked. I feel as if someone very dear to me has died. It is our failure to protect this majestic animal.”

Locals and wildlife enthusiasts suspect the tiger was poisoned as there are no indications of poaching attempts. Confirming the tiger’s death, Additional Chief Secretary (forests and environment) Rajiv Gupta said, responding to why trackers failed to spot the dead tiger earlier, he said, “A tiger travels about 25 km a day. During night it becomes difficult for trackers to spot it.”

Environmental activist Manish Vaidya said, “The carcass is a few days old. If they had seen a tiger why was the guideline by National Tiger Conservation Authority not followed? Looking at the carcass, there is a possibility that the tiger may have been poisoned.”

Forest and Environment Minister Ganpat Vasava pleaded ignorance about the development.

Drone Surveillance will be Started in Nauradehi to Keep an eye on Radha- Kishan Pair, received 6 Lakhs rupees fund from government to do so

*This image is copyright of its original author

Forest dept of nauradehi division sent a proposal to fund 12 lakh for Drone vigilance over Tiger duo which is recently relocated to WLS. PCCF Alok Kumar sanctioned 6 lakhs in advance to buy drones by accepting the proposal. After receiving amount, dept formed a committee to spend money on Drone management.

After the drone program initiation, King- Queen (Tigress Radha and Tiger Kishan) of Nauradehi forest will get full protection and security of 24*7 under department's vigilance.

Along with Tigers, all animals (Remember cheetah? Wink ) will also be under strict vigilance and security in Nauradehi

Nauradehi is spread over 1197 km2 area in 3 districts namely, Sagar, Damoh and Narasimhapur. The two tiger brought from Bandhavgarh and Kanha-Kisli tiger reserves to Nauradehi will be protected along with other wild animals.

That is in 6 divisions of Nauradehi WLS along with Tiger, Sloth bear, Chital, Sambar, Wild hare, Nilgai, Jackal, Leopard and Hyena and various other animals are living here. This a new advanced and strong strategy initiative by FD to protect and increase wildlife for Conservation of nature besides TSF (Tiger Strike Force) and Anti-Poaching squads in Nauradehi.

By this method or technique along with Poaching and hunting, deforestation for smuggling of forest products will also be eradicated. This will be started very soon prior to cheetahs arrival and tiger conservation.

2 Drone cameras will be bought first
Dept asked for 4 drones but going to buy 2 in advance. 1 drone costs 2.5 to 3 lakhs. It is the dept's decision to buy 2.5 lakh or 3 lakh drones as more latter gets more quality and range vigilance cover can be easily upto 4-5 km and the difference will be in Drone cam's battery quality and capacity to adjust voltage for better performance in recording or shooting the tape and visuals of landscape to analyze, manage and monitor the situation.

About Dog Squads in Nauradehi:

Believing to protect the teak and wild animals, the department brought Belgian shepherd dog
In the Nauradehi Sanctuary, tiger and tigress have found their friendly natural environment after decades where they can live freely...

*This image is copyright of its original author

The responsibility of protecting not only tigers but also other animals and precious teak from the poachers and smugglers is on the shoulders of the forest department.

Regrettably, what will happen if gardeners only destroy the farm? The same happened in Nauradehi in the last few days when tendukheda and Taradehi area of Tindani and Sarra forest's teak was consumed in large quantities by rangers and subordinated forest administration.

It is probed by Tiger Strike Force. Now the department has trusted a dog to protect the wildlife from hunters and teak smugglers. Belgian Shepherd Dog is now a new guest of Nauradehi. This clever-agile dog is not only expert in evading evidence, but also has potential to teach a good lesson to smugglers and tear off chunks from hunters.

Helped in solving two cases
Belgian Shepherd Dog has helped the department in solving two cases related to teak harvesting while stepping into Nauradehi. He searched for used wood cutting tools in above case of smuggling and found pieces of meat/blood/flesh of hunted wild animals when poached. Nauradehi DFO Dr. Ankur Awadhiya is very happy in getting this dog.

He told that the dog will roam in the range and it will be sent there for any special investigation. Dr. Awadhiya says that the department staff is in charge of allegations in Teak harvesting in Nauradehi. Some of these have been penalized too. This dog will satisfy the Dog Department's expectations in curbing the teak cutting and protecting wildlife.

Same in panna, kanha and Pench
Before Naurdehi, Belgium Shepherd is there in Panna- 3, Kanha-1 and Pench Tiger Reserve- 1 which are protecting wildlife. The price of the dog is more than 80 thousand rupees. It specializes in Sniffing, Vehicle Searching, running and tracking.
