Amit says that Tigers have been spotted many times and the Gov't is aware. It's also stated that this young Male is 450 miles away from GIR so the odds of them interacting are slim but GIR lions have naturally expanded their territory so it's still possible. Either way there is some good info on that post if you guys check it out.

"If" this is confirmed by our respective and beloved "great" Gujarat govt, then this is one of the important milestone in Tiger Conservation history and future prosperity of India. @Lycaon

Madhya Pradesh tiger may have come with tigress, cubs, officials not sure

Tiger

The tiger was spotted after three decades in Gujarat state.
The tiger spotted in Mahisagar district on Saturday may have come with a female companion.

The state government is searching for the female tiger likely to have come with this tiger, however, no traces of presence of a tigress has been found yet.

Quote:Unconfirmed updates came to the forest department that a female tiger along with two cubs was also spotted by local people in forests near Santrampur.
The forest department, therefore, has also started looking at the possibility.

A senior official from the forest department said on condition of anonymity, "Tigers' mating season starts in November and they consummate during winters at the most.

As the studies and observation show that this tiger was in Gujarat for three or more months, he might have come with a female companion otherwise he would have returned within a few days for mating."

Quote:"There are also chances that the tiger may return to his territory in search of a female companion during mating season. The issue was discussed in a meeting with the minister Ganpat Vasava. We are waiting and observing the tiger's behaviour."

Chief conservator of forests, Vadodara circle, Sanjay Srivastava, said, "There are speculations that the female tiger was also present in forests in Gujarat. We have not found any trace of presence of a female tiger, although we do not confirm nor deny these reports."

A department source said, "The government is also looking for breeding of animals such as chital and others, so that tigers get prey to hunt and does not attack cattle or humans. If this tiger gets adequate prey here, chances of encounters between the tiger and human can be lowered. This would also increase the chances of other tigers moving into Gujarat."

FEMALE PRESENCE
  • The unconfirmed updates came to the forest department that a female tiger along with two cubs also was spotted by local people in forests near Santrampur.
  • The forest department, therefore has also started looking for the possibility.
  • Forest officials on Tuesday said tiger  traversed nearly 350 kms and reached Gujarat from a forest division in Dewas forest range, Madhya Pradesh.

Today's instant updates from our MP tiger in Gujarat AKA Gujarat Tiger.

Tiger in Gujarat: tiger hunted 4 goats in forest of Sahera.

Leisure stroll along the road, not yet confirmed by guj FD about other tigers presence (i.e.., his tigress mate and their cubs). BTW He's big and the hype and intense mass music given in background (BGM) by TV9 Gujarati News/media/press channel is "LIT" and totally befitted for the majesty of king of the jungle (IMO).

Mahisagar: Tiger attacks herd of cows in Kotha village of Lunavada

Gujarat: 11 teams of forest dept deployed after presence of tiger was confirmed in Mahisagar

MP forest officers will come in Gujarat for physical verification of Tiger in forest area

In 2017, animal lover Pratik Jain had predicted tiger's return in Gujarat

In Memory of Bamera -

Reign of Bamera

The reign of "Bamera" extended across Tala Zone, a part of Magadhi and Khitauli and also included some buffer area. During his time as the king of the jungle, Bamera not only was popular with outside visitors but also extended his charm amidst the other female tigresses. Mirchaini, Banabehi, Chakradhara and Kankati were all considered his better halves. He had 2-3 litters under his reign.

He was popular with visitors and was mostly found at popular spots in jungle, resting or marking his space.

Interesting as expected yesterday, they are more tigers.

so now it's confirmed that, why he came all the way and "staying" there without continuing his migratory search for female coz he already got one and settled there with his family by making kills and establishing territory. The only thing now FD should do is to give protection to that area or shift them to another reserve in Gujarat like Shulpaneshwar/Dangs by creating a tiger reserve, increase prey base by translocation some wild prey, manage conflict with humans coz our "great" Gujarat people and govt are great in coexisting with predators like lions. right? Let's see.

Saw tiger with cubs, says villager in Lunawada

The talk of Gujarat now being home to more than one tiger got some oxygen, as a resident of Boriya village in Lunawada taluka of Mahisagar district, asserted that he had seen a tiger (female) with two cubs.

The villager Bhala Kala Damor said the tiger killed four of his goats and was accompanied by cubs. The attack took place at Gadh village, which is near Boriya village.

Quote:This is also not the first time such news has been reported.

There were earlier claims that a tiger with two cubs had been seen, but this was put aside by saying the animal was a leopard. “On Friday afternoon, I had taken my goats to graze, when I realized that there was a tiger near me.

I turned around to see that the tiger had two cubs with it. Before I could do anything, the tiger had killed three goats and was dragging one into the bushes.”

Damor said, “I began to run away from the area. I knew that if the tiger sees me running it would attack me and I hence I climbed a tree. I later called some villagers who came to the spot, after which I got down.”

Damor says he is sure that he saw a tiger with two cubs. The forest department was also called, and they studied the goat kills.

Deputy conservator of forests R M Parmar declined to comment on the issue.

A senior forest officer in the area said, “In the last week of January there were reports from residents of Lunawada that they had seen a tiger with two cubs, but the department, after failing to get evidence, dismissed it as a leopard.

A senior officer said that if the tiger is seen with cubs, it is likely there is a mating pair as a tigress would not travel long distances with cubs, that too without being noticed. If there are cubs here, it is likely there is a mating pair in the vicinity and the cubs were born in the same area.

Quote:The officer said the department should bring in NTCA experts as Gujarat foresters have never handled tigers.

The Ratapani male was photographed several times along his journey, never with a companion. (Tigers don't "elope" together anyway... The whole story was cooked up by headline-hungry local media based on unverified rumours.)

If an secretive female does exist there as the locals been claiming, she may have been from somewhere close by... Maybe even born along Maharastra-Gujarat border, where there's been reports of tiger surfacing for few years now.

Sorry, I wrote the 1st sentence, before reading the news (you can see the next sentences in my post are saying that he found the female there which is living in Gujarat which is not from Ratapani or else where). After reading, I acknowledged that, the tigress is one of the secretive tigers which is already living in forests of Gujarat for years without direct official confirmation. I know they don't elope coz tigresses don't travel with his mates when they have own territories established and when she's with cubs its even rarer to leave her territory coz cubs will be in danger when traveling and cubs won't enough be strong to migrate large distances. Probably Ratapani Tiger came for that tigress in lion state.

Edit: First sentence of last post removed.

I didn't find anything rumor'y' though. In fact they did a good thing.

It's all rumours right now!

Be it tracks or scat or photo or pugmark... multiple signs - of one & only one - male tiger has been repeatedly confirmed in the region. And absolutely no other indication of any other animal, have been recorded yet, despite FD teams actively searching. The area is too far from Gujarat's border with Maharastra (no nearby tiger populations on MP or Rajasthan side) for trans-boundary individuals. Residents would leave clues of their existance, even if direct evidence isn't always easily available, due to secretive lifestyle.

If there were cubs when "the tigress" killed the 3 goats, there would be guaranteed proof of their existance at the site.
Better not get ahead of ourselves until atleast some credible information comes up....

@Rishi are you saying the villager is lying that he saw cubs? He don't know how a tiger looks? What killed these goats and attacked cows then? A Leopard?

I know that, there is no official confirmation but we can't deny the villagers sayings or rumors for yrs.

I think i was pretty clear.
Keeping in mind how it could be a claim to fame, it's most likely the first & last options... I already explained why.

I don't deny the existence of reports & rumours, but for now, that's all that they are. Enough to be taken seriously on WhatsApp, but not WildFact.

I'd love to be wrong, but i'd like to be proved wrong.

Tiger in Gujarat nicknamed "bava" for refusal to 'settle'

*This image is copyright of its original author
Tiger Officials in MP said they’ve urged their counterparts in Gujarat to keep an eye on the tiger and to let them know if it re enters Madhya Pradesh

The tiger from Ujjain that made its way into Mahisagar, thus making Gujarat the only state to host the three big cats, was nicknamed "Mangala Bava" for its propensity to travel and its refusal to settle down. It should be noted that the tiger that was spotted first by a local school teacher and later caught on camera traps set by the forest department.

The animal is believed to be around 5 to 7 years old and belonged to Ratapani sanctuary near Bhopal.
Since 2017, the forest officials have been tracking his journey and is at present in Santrampur area in Mahisagar district of Gujarat.

A source in the know said a team from MP had also visited the state after the tiger was reported in Mahisagar.

Quote:Gujarat forest officials, however, categorically denied that any team from MP had come. "No team from MP has come here," said CCF Vadodara Circle SK Srivastava.

Sources also said that a two-member team from Gujarat had also meet officials of the National Tiger Control Authority (NTCA) and the latter had asked for a rapid survey as well as further details about the animals.

"The MP team also informed that the tiger was nicknamed Mangala Bava for it so far did not seem intent on settling anywhere. Bava is a term used for an ascetic," said the source.
"It could be that a team from MP has visited Gujarat," said a top-level official of the MP Forest department.

Srivastava, meanwhile, said that after its first sighting, the tiger has been caught several times in camera traps. "But we are not revealing information about the same," said Srivastava. Earlier, the department had in a series of tweets also clarified that it had no intention of capturing the tiger.

The clarification came after media reports of the department sourcing cages in the area where the tiger was found. It clarified that the cages were brought for 'unforeseen future needs'.

The tiger from Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Station that migrated to neighbouring MP only to end up in Satpura Power Station in Sarni, got his freedom this month.

The 2.5-year-old tiger was released into the wild in Bori Wildlife Sanctuary (518sqkm) part of the Satpura Tiger Reserve (1,500 sqkm core and 700 sqkm buffer), that he so narrowly missed after such a record-breaking journey. The area is a good habitat, as all villages here have been relocated. Grasslands have added to a good prey base too.

Due to the bad habit caused by his "upbringing" he had to be retrained to life in the wild & was shifted to a specialised 6hc. enclosure at Kanha (that had raised other orphan tigers) after 10 days of cat'nmouse...
Considering its history (killed two people), it was to be released in Van Vihar, Bhopal, for display but forest officials gave a second thought because he was young & carried Maharastra genes.

“We released live chitals into the enclosure and, during the 50-odd days, the tiger killed over 7. After a go-ahead from experts, it was radio-collared and released on 1st February", said SK Singh, field director of Satpura.

So far so good.
