Bringing the life stories of such legends. Yeda Anna aka Charger of Tadoba. ------------------------------------- Yeda Anna arrived on the scene by 2005-06, way before Tadoba appeared on the tiger map. He was said to be the son of the legend of Moharli range, Sultan. Sultan was the nucleus for most of the tigers of this range; possibly the father of Wagdoh male or Scarface. The huge body structure, rounded skulls and huge territories are all the features of Moharli range males. Yeda Anna was a contemporary of old Katezhari (or Boom male), Hilltop male, and Jabbar (who ousted the old Sultan; I am not sure if this is the same Jabbar that mated much later with Nira - mother of Maya, at Tadoba range. Coincidentally, Sultan was also called Gabbar, but he's different from the new Gabbar or the Leopard-Face). Yeda Anna was the most dominant male, and his range extended from Moharli-Telia area and Kosba line, and slowly moved to Devdoh, Khutvanda, Chichghat, Kosekanar, Aswalhira, and Vasant Bhandara: perhaps the largest of any tiger from Moharli range, to date. His movement towards Khatoda and beyond was because of his fight with Scarface in 2011. His range was limited to Moharli range, during his initial days. He was named Yeda Anna for his aggression and charging at gypsys for no reason. Yeda stands for 'madness'. He was also called 'Charger of Tadoba' In 2009, he mated with Lakshmi or Tara, who delivered a litter of four tigers, that eventually came to be known as Circuit gang. This was the family that put Tadoba on the world tiger map. The family comprised of Rambhir (Ookhan), Circuit, Gauri (more famously known as Choti Tara) and Imli. In 2010, he mated with Madhuri to produce a litter of three cubs. Due to advancement of the more dominant and territorial male, Scarface, Yeda Anna was forced to move away from Moharli range. In 2011, a territorial fight between Scarface and Yeda Anna happened at Kosba Line. Scarface eventually killed the litter of Madhuri and mated yet again, to produce the famous Telia gang. Yeda Anna was also responsible for the Devdoh family line. He mated with the Chichghat tigress in 2011, and gave birth to CG4 or the old Devdoh female. She's the nucleus for all the Devdoh tigers today. Yeda Anna also mated with his daughter CG4 later to give birth to the new Devdoh female (first litter of CG4) He was sighted at Vasant Bhandara and Jamun Bodi, Panchdhara later in 2015, and was last sighted at Panderpauni in 2016 and last sighted at Tadoba lake in 2017. He was seen a few days ago at Chimur, possibly injured, and finally succumbed (having not touched the live bait arranged by forest department) at 2:00PM, today, the 25th of Feb, 2018, dying at an age of 16+ years. Yeda Anna was certainly the legend of Tadoba, for his dominance, aggression and for his contribution to the tiger line of Tadoba. p.s. Photos taken from various sources. Mysterious Dewdoh Cub,,, Female Cub of the most elusive Tiger family from Tadoba... It was the last game drive, and we would be reaching the gate in another ten minutes. I packed the cameras, and was having a banter with the guide, Banvari, the forest officer, Kamlesh who accompanied us and my friend, Ramudu sir. 6:35 PM, the sun set and the light was fading too fast. I was telling Ramudu ji, how good this trip had been in terms of some excellent photos we were able to make. Pench is an exquisite haven for photography just like most Sal forests. Even our stay outside the Pench Karmajhiri gate is so rustic, far away from creature comforts and human annoyance. The gypsy was slowly locomoting towards the gate, and I was already drooling about some coffee with pakodas. Suddenly, the guide screamed, 'sir, tiger, tiger'. I jumped over the seat to look around. Standing at a couple of feet away from us is the big male. Adrenaline kicked in, and my heart started to thump, in excitement. Fear kicked in slowly, as he started to amble towards us, with a hooked tail. He too should have been taken down by surprise, seeing us. He was unsure and I, particularly was scared, after all, he's a huge fella. We stood our ground and kept calm. He then lowered the tail, and started to walk by our gypsy. Picking my camera, with my hands still shivering and my heart still pounding, I managed to click a few photos. This is one such, the closest, when he walked parallel to our gypsy, clicked at 70mm focal length. I still feel the jitters when I think of the incident, probably because, we weren't expecting to see a tiger then, and he's given the perfect surprise. And yes, he's the King of Aces, the most dominant of all, Raiyakassa. Tiger Bear fight gone Viral!

The sheer resilience that the female bear shows in the fight as it counters repeated attacks from the tiger has left many wildlife observers astounded and surprised. The video starts with the tiger charging on the bear but later the bear retaliates in equal measure. As the video progresses, the bear seems tired but unwilling to give up against the tiger. Sunil Nayak a Mumbai-based senior management professional was witness to the fight.He shared his experience with amazement to DNA,” Even the guide who was with us felt that this was an extremely rare sight. It was quite a close fight. It was very thrilling and nail-biting. We thought that the tiger will overpower the bear. But the bear knew one thing that if it gives access to it's neck to the tiger then she would loose the fight and her life. Hence, the bear dug her neck between her legs and curled herself when the tiger pounced on her. The bear used its lighter weight to push the tiger back. We were extremely lucky to witness such a fight.” The video recorded a couple of days back has given wildlife enthusiasts an opportunity to see predatory behaviour in the jungle in greater detail. Saresh Lodhi, a wildlife photographer admits that sightings of tiger are very high but bear sightings are very rare. “ You see many animals in Tadoba National Park in all their splendour. However, tiger and sloth bear fight is a rare occurrence. In my last 25 years, I have seen such fight only once before. It is equally rare to see such a fight getting documented. Both could get equally injured in such a battle. In this case, the bear has received more injuries but it could have been equally severe for the tiger. The tiger attacked the sloth bear cub and this may have provoked the female bear to attack the tiger. Bears are generally very shy but they have such run-ins with tigers. “ Dr Anish Andheria,President, Wildlife Conservation Trust who is an animal biologist has some interesting insights on the issue. He informs that tigers are predators and can overpower anything. Sloth bear is the part of their diet. A male tiger can weigh anything over 200kg and a bear upto 100 kg. “I have witnessed tigers following elephant cubs and killing them down. Even in this instance the tiger had bitten the sloth bear. The sloth bear is clearly injured. It can never outrun a tiger. Sloth bears have weapons to injure but tiger with his sharp canines and claws have weapons to injure as well as kill.” Andheria's research has revealed that bears are prey for tigers. “I have analysed scat of the tiger and have found sloth bear hairs in the excreta. However, on most accounts it is not an easy prey and there is a chance of injury to the tiger. Hence, the tigers mostly avoid hunting bear“, adds Andheria. Both the bear and the tiger have their strong points in a fight. The long hair gives the bear a edge in the fight. The tiger in a fight throttles the animal. However, with its dense hair it is not easy to throttle a bear. The tiger has a muscular body whereas bear has sharp claws which can injure the underbelly of a tiger. But a tiger can pursue the bear for long distances and the bear can get tired in the process. The sloth bear in the video is unusually aggressive. This is clearly because the male tiger had attacked the pup of the female bear. The video is just another instance of the mysterious way our animal kingdom works.

Matkasur male. My Home, My Rules, My Journey...!! Head's On being really fascinating these days, But the mood and overall feel being really vibrant which couldn't resist me from posting it over here. The absolute Show Piece from central India. An ID recognition is not necessary, He's at his prime and the daring step ahead is the definition to his legacy. Non other than the grown up adult alpha male. You can easily guess him out..!! Head on's are pretty much easy these days, but to get hold of one such act along with the vibrance in it, you really need to concentrate well on live field. The point of execution maters a lot, so in this case as he strolled down his path the very early morning, his way which is filled with thick bushes, dry thorns & sharp twigs added in lots of drama to the whole frame, hence making it more appealing to witness and execute. In short The ambience maters a lot in describing what nature is all about. Getting hold of that natural ambience is primary and the remaining that follows by being mood, content & subject is apt to be secondary.  *This image is copyright of its original author

What we observed is as below, "We got sighting of this pair in morning 6:45 at kosecanal road. Around 8:30 Bajrand left that place & moved away from Jamni lake. Choti Tara crossed fireline & moved towards Jamni lake. She stared calling cubs & suddenly we saw her two cubs & Matkasur responded & stared walking towards her." As we had to move to Moharli, we left that place. But by present source of information I came to know that Matkasur he's left Jamni lake & moved towards kadamba.
