Mantimahle Male Lions take down buffalo on the road - Kruger National Park

On the 2nd of October 2015, Marten Lange was doing a game drive with safari guests for Elephant Herd Safaris and Tours in Kruger National Park, South Africa. Between Skukuza and Tshokwane when he arrived at the Mantimahle waterhole he saw some lions lying in the shade of a bush. The guests were thrilled but wanted to see the lion a bit better then suddenly the lion lifted their heads. The sighings what happened then was just unbelievable.

The two buffaloes came running from the waterhole side with the four male lions, the Mantimahle Coalition, chasing them. The one buffalo turned around as it feard the lions and try to fight back but that was a grave mistake. The rest is history as they say...

Taken a few days ago - the Sand River Pride strolling along the banks of the river which gave them their name.
Most of the cubs have survived and are now the same size as their mothers. Unfortunately two older females have fallen by the way side, and the male coalition which dominated this pride has moved on.
But with 5 females and 3 young males, the Sand River Pride are looking strong. (Mantimahle legacy)
