Norman Watson:

Together forever

This is a photo from August 2014 when i first encountered the mighty Notch boys when they were 4 strong, this is a moment between the late Grimace and Ron after eating the majority of a Wildebeest, sitting face to face grooming each other affirming their bond. Certainly right place right time that day.

From Matira Magazin, Did an eland kill the lion Grimace?:

One year ago, on 13.10.15, the Matira crew found the remains of the lion Grimace - after missing a long time. But what killed the legendary Notch brother?

About 40 meters from the carcass of the lion, the dead body of an eland was found. The great beast, which could defend itself with mighty horns, was in a conspicuously similar condition to the lion. This suggests that there was a struggle between the two animals that did not produce any winners. The bite of a lion and the horns of an eland – both sealed the fates of the otherwise so unequal fighters.

The carcass looks like it belongs to a lioness.

Don't know about that. This is the second pic I've seen of that carcass, in the other they had lifted its head up and you could see the missing upper canine.

Caesar, credits to Douglas MacRae. Picture from August.

Kenya- this huge lion is one of a coalition of three males that rule the largest pride in the Maasai Mara, the 'Marsh Pride'. Scars on his side show he has been in some wars. He and his brother were stalking toward a long line of Wildebeast when I snapped this.
