On the lion front, the Giraffe Pride and Monwana males were seen in the far western portions and spent a day standing off against a herd of buffalos. Once more though, it was the River Pride that took centre stage. They spent the entire week within our concession (a welcomed change following their recent erratic movements), but still, they walked some large distances during that time. The mother that lost her cubs spent last weekend mating with the Nharhu males as the rest of the lionesses and cub wandered around. They surprised us one evening when they came to drink at Camp dam while we were escorting the guests back to their tents. Following up the next day, Jack managed to track them down to a very fresh buffalo kill a couple of kilometres south of the camp. It was a pleasing find, not only because it gave us three days of guaranteed lion viewing, but also this was the first adult buffalo the pride had killed in almost a year, and they did it without the Nharhu males. Only the limping male was present when we found the kill and it took the other two males a couple of days to locate the pride. Despite that, by the end of the scene, all eight members of the pride were completely satiated following such a big meal. Tracks for the two Mbiri males were seen going to Machaton Dam, but we didn’t follow up to find them.
The core pride of lions holding the mid section of the Klaserie, the River Pride, are protected by two massive coalition males, Hosi and Socha. While the females are busy building a dynasty that has produced 10 cubs of late. There is however another male coalition pair who have emerged in the north of Klaserie recently, photographed here. This pride also comprises of two very large dominant males covering 5 suspected Dundee lionesses and their 8 cubs… so far. What fantastic big cat dynamics in Klaserie.
One of two. This stinking light maned male has a coalition parter who is black maned. The two protect 8 cubs and a territory in the north of Klaserie:

I thought the Impalabos Male and his partner controlled the Dundee Pride as well as the River Pride. I guess these two unknown males are taking over the Dundee Pride.

Where did you read that they control Dundee pride? Those prides are close and rangers often call River Pride Dundee pride, but there is also Dundee Breakeaway pride in that area, so things are not very clear there which pride is which..
And as it says, those males protect 8 Dundee cubs, so those cubs are theirs prob..

They are said to have 8 cubs already so they must have took controll over that pride at least couple of months ago.

Can't remember where, but I think it was a few months back. As far as I was aware the River Pride and Dundee Pride are separate but do interact with each other. I think one is a breakaway from the other, not sure which. Much less detail from Klaserie lodges on dynamics unfortunately.
Black dam male died on Saturday evening. He was found dead on giraffe. The evening before he was hunting Buffalo with the giraffe pride and was badly gored. Very sad but it issues in a new age for lions.

Very sad news indeed. Last few months have been tough for him, a lot of pressure from outside males, including being chased by two of his own sons.

BDM was known for taking buffaloes down on his own, hope for more info soon..
If this is true, truly passing of a legend.. RIP Black Dam Male..
