I do not think so. Getting more fat is not common in case of wild lions especially such as active as Mbiris. I do not think he changed by any measure through last years.

?? What.. Lions definitely can put mass and weight all the way to 7 years of age, after that they are pretty much the same until the old age when they get more skinnier..
Their weight changes day to day, depends how often they eat..

Nah, they do not grow anymore after they are 5 years old. Moreover great most of growing they do untill 3 and half - 4 years old. I am not talking about mane size. I am also talking about male in good condition as obviously if lion does not eat for too long it will start to lose muscle mass.
Btw At 9 years the ageing on lions is already vissible. Do you suggest they develop for 7 years just to being in prime barely for one or two years?

We are not talking about growing in terms of height , yet putting mass and weight, ofc that lion after 5 yrs of age dont grown in height anymore, but he can put more mass to an age of 7, which is the best yrs of male lions..
I think we had a few discussion about lions "prime" yrs already, it seems that you have your opinion which is ok, but i definetly disagree...
I most definetly disagree that lions prime yrs start at 5.. Just compare pictures from the same lions at age of 5 and age of 7, you will see that, that lion is much more "massive" at the age of 7 then he was at age of 5..

Yesterday morning we had some action! The Mbiri males were in the Nharau males territory (the Nharau males are the fathers of the 6 cubs on Kings Camp with a 3rd male) This isnt great footage but make sure you have the sound on to hear Grant and Hayley commentating. Cathan found them early in the morning, reaching them just after a fight and then the Nharau males chased the Mbiri's all the way to the South and out of their territory. We followed for about 7km and then lost them. The larger male from the Mbiri was injured (back leg) but not too badly, he was however a little slow at times and the other male would wait for him if the Nharau got too close. Very interesting to see this interaction.

Apperantly 1 of the Nharhus was limping and had blood on his pawn, so they might be fighting aswell..
Mbiris recently have seen a lot of time on the ege of their old territory and Nharhus, its speculated that they are getting pressured by other coalition in Kruger from the other side, so they might try to takeover they old territory, but as we see, Nharhus are not intimiated.. We'll se what will happen in future..

Been following these threads for a good couple for years and it\'s been really awesome getting to follow lion population dynamics (particularly in the Greater Kruger National Park ecosystem), so thanks for all the great work.I think the 3 Nharhu males have been doing very well as pride males despite their youth, refusing to roll over for the 2 powerful Mbiri males (damn! Shaka has grown, he looks slightly bigger than Scar). Hopefully they remain in control in the area for long enough for the River Pride to grow even more but time will tell.

So apperantly BDM was seen with his 2 young sons from Giraffe pride, it seem they run away/split because of Monwana males who are taking control over Giraffe pride territory and their lionesses..
