An “Unknown” pride was seen on Djuma today by the WE team.   Anyone have a guess whom they could be?    Torchwoods?  Imbalis?

Sunrise Live Drive with Cedric Dold and Thulani Nghonyama on cam.. 05-10-22
Interesting!!. “Unknown Pride” of Lions moved in South from Buffelshoek crossing into Djuma.. No ID on lions yet.. “2 Old Females” “2 Young Females” “3+ Young Males”, one missing black tip of its tail and tip of his left ear.

Seems like it was indeed the Imbalis, nice to see them!

Torchwood Pride

  • Seven members of this pride were seen around Clarendon Corner on the 1st. Two lionesses and five cubs were seen north of Buffalo Bush Dam on the 5th . Two females were at Clarendon Dam on the 26th . On the 29th, three lionesses and seven cubs were around Clarendon Corner again

Sand River Pride

  • We recorded four sightings of this pride this month. On the 8th, all 14 members were in F-Bend Open Area. On the 10th, one sub-adult male and four sub-adult females were at Boomers Crossing. These sub-adults moved west overnight and joined the rest of the pride around Rocky Crossing on the 11th . The last sighting of this pride was on the 19th when all of them were in F-Bend Open Area.

Tsalala Pride

  • The Marthly lioness made her return to Marthly on the 15th of this month. Following her return, she was seen another three times on the property, after which her pride was named. Unfortunately, she was not with the Mangeni lioness in any of her appearances.

Really heartbreaking stuff for the young Tsalala Princess. Left alone at such a young age, by her mother's death, likely the result of protecting her. Then to find a friend, only to have her suddenly return to her own pride. Video of her contact calling was crushing to watch, memories of Big Boy immediately came to mind.

Her mother literally did everything she could to pass on all she was able to.

These should be the same pride from yesterday.   They’re Imbali Breakaways.  The sub adults sired by S8/Imbali

If it's Torchwood pride, then these cubs/ subadults are younger half brother/ cousin of TYM.
If this imbali pride, then I guess no relation.

No relation to him.

I suspect these two Lionesses are taking these Imbali offsprings away from the pride which is undergoing a takeover after being abandoned by the S8 male.

Similar circumstances that the Skorro pride was in themselves a few years ago after the Orpen left them and went to the Mbiris.

If you recall, there was a small breakaway of two lionesses and a few subs…one of those Sub adults is now the Skorro YM that’s in Timbavati and recently seen mating w Avoca females
