So stoked these two guys found each other and are a great match. Their bond is pretty strong….too bad there’s no available prides but curious how well they can battle for a territory. They are old but very experienced fighters and in good condition.

He can use a meal, can see his ribs.

A bit off topic perhaps but I always wonder how these creatures are able to navigate through this terrain. To know where they are, which direction they are going, how they avoid enemies and, in this case, find there partners again after they were separated. Here Kruger male is looking for his partner (after Southern Avoca got chased by PCMs?). Obviously they do it through vocalizing, their smell etc. but as a human I always find it hard to grasp how that works and how they manage to find eachother again. I would get lost there so quicky lol.

Lions only regulary use small portions of their territory with some paths connecting these areas together. If they stray from those, they can roughly orient themselves around those spots to get an general sense of where they need to go. With perhaps some navigating around the sun or distant mountains to help them. It helps that the Savanna is very open so finding a big Kopje to lookout from also helps.

If they get seperated, its just a matter of checking those spots while leaving a mark you have just been there. Then if you are close, contact call.

Nomads probably use a similar tactic, but on a much bigger scale and avoiding territorial markings from other coalitions. Though if they are seperated it can take a lot longer to find eachother, so even while fleeing their best tactic is to flee in the same direction or note which way the other went.

That is a Kruger road and with them having come from the Sabi Sands and unless they've gone waaay further south, it could only be the H11 which is the Kruger Gate to Skukuza road that borders the Lion Sands and Kirkmans Camp which is the southernmost Sabi Sands or the H1-2 that goes roughly north east up past and away from the Sabi Sands but comes close to the south eastern corner of it around the Sand River low level bridge/Maroela Loop (S83).

Looking at the other slides, the sun, the water monitor pic at the drainage line of which there aren't really any that look like that on the H11 and the fact that to be on the H11 they'd have to had crossed a full Sabie River somewhere, my money is that they were spotted on the H1-2 just north of the Sand River low level bridge, or just south of it, I suppose, on an early morning drive that was going towards Tshokwane.

To be exact they are seen at S1, 500m from H11, Near Skukuza, information from Kruger Sightings.

Interesting. They've trekked almost due south. That's pretty much smack bang in the N'waswitshaka pride territory then isn't it and his maternal grandmother might still be even be there. Highly dangerous for K12 as a lone female but at this point, where isn't, I guess.

Wonder if we'll ever see them back in the Sabi Sands or if they'll lose themselves in the Kruger.
