Nkuhuma Male 2016 & Khanya Talamati Male: Seems like they are back in the South/Central Area of Sabi Sands

umkumbe_river_lodge
On afternoon drive, we headed out and found the Nkuhuma and Talamati males on a buffalo calf kill!
They made quick work of their kill, reducing it to skin and bone by nightfall!
These males seem to be forging a strong coalition, and we are excited to see where their future takes them!

So, was it K6 then that had a brief altercation with Eorenji Ndhzenga?

It makes sense since originally guide thought it was a Kambula male, but we assumed Kambulas were down south so it could not have been them, however it turns out they are indeed in the north.

Maybe K6 is still be limping slightly and therefore couldn't outran the Ndhzenga male? Or more surprisingly, K6 stood his ground? That'd be impressive by Kambula standards and the second time K6 sort of engaged a strong dominant male alone.

The ginger Mantimahle male also has some fresh, more prominent facial injuries, so it could be him too, but I think if it was him close to Eorenji, with the swollen face, the guides would have been able to easily ID him as Mantimahle have huge and distinct manes, difficult to mistake him for say a BDM or Kambula, also he has uglier injuries, while Eorenji has basically nothing, being unlikely he could inflict that damage to a much bigger male who is also a prime dominant male, while K6 is still a nomad who might be submissive and/or not fight aggressively.

My bet is that they probably traded some blows, with K6 staying submissive, then Eorenji left roaring like in the video we saw.

He is very lucky it wasn't both Nwas, else we might be having a very different discussion right now. Those four boys might simultaneously be the luckiest and unluckiest males around.

Those are old injuries, when he was caught alone in the north.

Theres no evidence that K6 fight EO, thats not 1 day old injury.

For the Ginger Mantimahle injuries/limp he did got it when he had a scuffle at a kill with his brother and Torchwood Pride, last seen at Buffelshoek.

For Eorenji seems like he did chase someone but guide said it to be SBDM as he is near where Eorenji was.

For the SBDM said swollen face I think he just have a big face compared to his small body size and maybe that is why some guides mistook it for swollen.

For K6 I think it's just his old injuries when he was caught alone presumably by the Veteran Duo as the injury is identical to his injury at that time, just like Tr1x24 had said.

Also SBDM is said to be trailing Southern Avoca and Kruger Male, seems like he wants to be a coalition partner to them and he really needs a coalition partner at this time as the North is quite precarious as even the Ndzenghas is venturing North more frequently and in Southern Manyeleti/Northern Sabi Sands there are the Monwana Boys doubt that they will cause some havoc/chaos but their presence will definitely make the male lions more aggressive, adding them to the many males in the area.

For context here are the males in the area right now/recently sighted are 2 Mantimahle Sons, 4 Kambula Males, Southern Avoca, Kruger Male, SBDM, 4 Monwana Boys, 2 Ndzenghas (frequenting their visit), totaling to 15 male lions, 17 if you count the 2 NK Young Male and NK BA Young Male and for the PCM seems like they are busy in the West and not visiting North for quite some time.

Can’t even rule out NYM and Khanya from that discussion, I know recently they’ve been spending most of their time further south but before that they were wandering all over the reserve and could in theory still pop up anywhere.

NK usually "avoids" north (his natal area), so i dont think they will go north.

They traverse west - londolozi - south.

Lions look in love. Wonder if they could be with their relatives. Wonder if lioness will have cubs from Ndhzenga male lions?

Highly doubt that K12 rejoins Kambula Pride or Ntsevu Pride as multiple times that they meet both pride lionesses chase her out best situation for K12 is to form a pride/partnership with the lone Tsalala lioness as she would be more safer territory wise if she did give birth to Ndzenghas or Styx Male cubs as she is pinched right now with the prides that the Gijimas and Ndzenghas hold. I also think PCM is her best option as the Ndzenghas, the oldest dominant coalition inside Sabi Sands and having the Central Sabi Sands as their territory a prime lion territory there would be lot more competition in the upcoming years.

For Styx Male best option for him is to have a coalition partner maybe the Nkuhuma & Talamati Duo as both is currently in the South as well, or maybe the 2 Nkuhuma Young Males (Main Pride & BA) or maybe venture out of Sabi Sands and finds his place and coalition partner outside of Sabi Sands.

Hi. You make a good point. Would prefer young lioness to join Tsalala but even though a lone lioness would the lone lioness be looking for a partner? Tsalala lioness has been alone for some time and now is with plain camp male lions. If Tsalala is pregnant? I was hoping Talamatie lioness could be with k12.

Plain camp male lions would be a better choice. Plain camp male lions are younger. Maybe a better choice for all Kambula lionesses after Ndhzenga male lions leave and sons and daughter mature. It would be interesting Plain camp male lions seems they love Ximhungwe  lionesses. I wonder if plain camps would leave for Kambula lionesses.

I was wondering why with Nukhuma lionesses they did not stay. I was counting all Nukhuma lions, but there is only three adult lionesses? The plain camp male lions must like Ximughwe lionesses strength and I get the feeling Ximugweu lionesses enjoy their company too and may call them when eating? Is what maybe didn’t happen with Mahangeni. I would like to see Ndhzenga male lions and Palin camp male lions to change; plain camp male lions with Kambulas and Ndhzenga male lions in the west. Although who knows what will happen. Even Ndhzenga male lions may surprise and stay a few more years. Or they may just leave like Matimbas and go to the west or north, because of other male lions younger or more lions. Maybe they go to north where they need stability and young Nukhuma lionesses would be mature. Sorry thinking about what may happen hopefully none of the male lions get hurt or other male lions. I can see Gijima male lions having to leave if Nukhulus in a few years decide to go to Gijima male lions and Gijima male lions may go to Kambulas, the north or west. Nukhulus may stop and stay with Styxt, Talamatie and Southern lioness. The Nukhulu male lions have already been with an Sothern lioness and Styxt lioness.

Styxt male lion. I would prefer not to see him with Nukhuma male lion. Although Styxt male lion seems mature enough if they were to decide to stay together it would be good. I just do not see the Nukhuma male being his best option. Maybe to have friend and help hunting. K12 may separate. If Styxt male lion gets with Nukhuma male lions I do not think it would be good. Nkuhuma male lion with his sister may not leave her maybe until mature and male lions are around. Young Nukhuma male lion is young. I wonder if he would be better of with young Talamatie male lion and Nukhuma. Young Nukhuma male lion does know Talamatie male lion. Hoping maybe the black damn male lion could join them.

I used to think males preferred the larger prides but not the plains camp males I honestly think they’re just trying to expand and the way they’re expanding the mhangeni pride isn’t in the new area but the ximhungwes still are sorta plus they’ve been waiting to mate with the older ximhungwe mhangeni females won’t be ready to mate again for maybe another 2 years I think
