There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

Beverly Joubert : " An impenetrable wall of megaherbivores - elephants in a defensive stance keeping their young hidden in the centre of their tight group. They're the most difficult animal for a lion to hunt, but elephants make sure not to underestimate the power of these carnivores - especially when the grass is dry and their condition is not at their peak. ".

Thank to an old account in the National Geographic magazine during the 1990's, 1994 more precisely, and written by Robert & Beverly Joubert, I learnt that the lions are able to regularly hunt the elephants at a precise place of Afrika: the Savuti Park in Botswana. In short, during the drought periods the current lions' preys migrated into less dry places and around the dried water resources, lions and elephants were facing each other. At first the lions killed the cubs but step by step they started to kill some subadult elephants and some adult females. According to the Joubert's account during the drought periods the elephants constitute 20% of the lions' diet...

It could be the same water point than in the previous post (#726). Here again it's the same kind of prey (a gazelle and not an antelope). But, suddendly, we discover three male lions, and not one, quarrelling the corpse...

Suzi Eszterhas: " Lions attacking buffalo @londolozi , South Africa. It takes incredible strength and real teamwork for lions to bring buffalo down. During the battle there are risks on both sides. Lions can easily become impaled by a horn. And the buffalo must not tire and fight to survive. These kind of hunts are not always easy to watch and can go on for a long time. But they are an incredible opportunity to witness the circle of life and the raw power of nature ".
