There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

To be honest, in land that isn´t at all that easy as it´s when carcass is floating at least partially and mud under it. I guess, that any of us could do the same. In water it´s easy to push or pull big boats weighing many times more, that that giraffe. So maybe this video was short, because lion had to stop pulling right after that. I don´t think, that lion is able to pull full grown giraffe carcass at all on land.

@Shadow :

About #1190: I just regreted this video was too short, because perhaps this lion has pulled the giraffe body out of the water. Just that. I have never seen a lion pulling an entire adult giraffe's body on land, of course. But I remind to have seen some lone lions pulling a partially eaten giraffe's corpse out of the water to eat it on land, on the ground...

When so wet and body floating it might have been able to drag neck to land, but that bank was clearly higher than water level, and when neck on land, that´s the spot, when body weight of carcass first time start to have some effect and easy pulling changes to struggle with dragging. And illusion about how easily all happens breaks up :) This part of video was pretty much illusion, it is easy to see, that no friction yet there. Lions are strong, but it´s good to notice, that in this video we see no demonstration about it. Those videos, where lions drag buffalo carcasses on land are the impressive ones. Even though buffalos are smaller, dry carcass on dry land is real test.

In contrast to tigers or jaguars, lions don' t like the water... It's always a trial, even for the full mature males, to cross a stretch of water or a river...
