Was he weighed?

Smuts weighed 344 lions from S. Africa, none weighed over 225kg so this Timbavati male would be exceptional.

He was weighed 280 kg but adjusted to 250 kg and he is the only male who weighed 250 kg then comes 227 kg lion weighed by Smuts and yes, he is exceptional in size. He was the same male included in @GuateGojira 's sub Saharan lion size table.

The King takes the lion's share!
One of the powerful Mahiwa boys, the largest in the coalition claims as his own the warthog kill  that the females of the Kwena pride had captured, typical!

Ah, you were wondering how lion did that? I don´t see in this anything too odd. Crocodile bit the body and it isn´t a good thing when animal is as big as a lion. Crocodile can´t capitalize it´s strong bite when it has to open mouth so much and it´s relatively easy for a strong animal to fight back so, that crocodile lose grip. And water was quite shallow, obviously lion could feel river floor right away when submerging making his position also a lot better in comparison with deeper water. It´s not so easy to do death roll for a crocodile when lion can use all his strength to push to opposite direction and that also leads to situation that crocodile lose his grip with jaws.

If that crocodile would have bit leg of the lion, situation might had developed differently or at least more work for the lion to get rid of the crocodile. I think, that many people overestimate crocodiles bite. While it´s very strong it´s not even nearly strong enough to crush big animals just like that, when it has to open jaws a lot. If that would have been a cheetah it could have been a different story too, lions are after all 3-4 times the size of cheetah. Overall when lions and crocodiles have a confrontation it´s difficult to say what is the outcome. Land and shallow water give benefits to lions and deeper water to crocodiles.
