A bit surprising, I didn't think he'd die, his father had a similar but worse looking injury, was 12yo, took a second beating and still survived for a month.

After he dies, I truly don't expect the other 3 to be successful, although it's a weird thought since we're talking about 3 prime brothers in an area of smaller coalitions.

We cant predict those things.

Who would have tought that Majingilanes would become most successful "observable" coalition ever when they lost their (prob most dominant/strongest at that time) brother in 2 vs 5.

While, admittedly, it looks really bad for sure, and knowing he could surely pass from these injuries, I am not giving up on him yet, and most definitely not on his brothers, at this point. We have seen lions survive with what looked to be worse injuries, and at the same time we have all seen lions pass with no visible injuries, Big Boy for example, and possibly one of the most shocking lion deaths that I can recall. However, my biggest concern, right now, is that head wound continuing to leak. He might actually have a cracked skull, we might be seeing brain fluid leaking out, which would be the worst possible case scenario, and depending on the severity, would likely be fatal, on it's own. I have witnessed people with brain fluid leaking out of their ears, and survive, but that was with an enormous amount of medical assistance, and tremendous struggle.

Let's send positive vibes. I saw a video a while ago where a lion had hole in the skull and loss brain tissue and the lion recovered.

Problem is we dont know how suvere some of these injuries are, lions can die from 1 bite if that bite is on "sketchy" place, while some can survive suvere mauling/injuries if nothing important is damaged.

We saw NK lioness surviving with massive open wound on her hip for years, but we also saw male lion die from 1 bite on his leg.

Tumbella has been dying for years now. While he obviously isn't going to be more than a scavenger anymore, he shows that lions can live for years longer than we can give him.
Though in this case, the next few weeks are going to be crucial to determine what the outcome will be.

You're right. After the Tumbela got his last beating, I thought it was the end for him.
Let's hope K4 situation be the same.

Tumbela never had as severe/serious injury as for example K4 now has, K4 muscle is literally ripped apart.

His "dying" speculations are more to his condition/health issues than his injuries.

@Tr1x24 Yeah they might "surprise" us, I've said it before that all the potential for them to be successful is there, they've reach an age where nothing stops them from claiming prides, and they have the numbers and health, they could "switch" to territorial at any point.

It's just that, even with their most dominant brother, they weren't sticking to their "territory" and acting like a strong unit, so with him likely gone, it's hard to see the other 3 "acting".

Majingilane were still 4, probably not as old/primed as their grandsons are right now and retaliated decisively in the same day, besides of sort of having a hold on the 4ways pride already and that territory in Kruger, bordering Sabi Sands.

So nobody even had time to wonder what'd happen to Majingis after 5th's death, however it's been a year since the BDM were ousted from the north by Kambulas, no bigger coalition than 2 have showed up and yet Kambulas didn't establish themselves, and now K4 is in dire condition.

@BA0701 I've been following them throughout all their nomadhood and they come from one of my favorite prides, I love their mothers, there's nothing I'd rather have than him making a full recovery.

It's just that initially I didn't thought it was very life threatening and was more concerned about him becoming a limping/weakened male, when he found the giraffe I thought "perfect, as long as he doesn't get beaten up again, he isn't dying", but surprisingly he looks and is said to be in way worse condition, for whatever reason.

If a giraffe kill didn't do it for him, it's hard to see what will do, he might have an infection, unlike his father who simply starved, not exactly dying from his injuries.

As for the other brothers, I'll be rooting for them for sure, It's just that as things stand right now I can't see them fully establishing themselves, all of them have been caught, some multiple times, it seems like it's a question of time for some other to meet the same fate of K4.

Still too much in my opinion.

If he makes it without help great. But it would rob others of the opportunities his demise would bring.

Also, if they push it too much. They may have to put him down later as he will associate humans with ubereat.

Kambula male K3
he and K6 remind me the most of their grandfathers Majingilane. Nhenha's gene also very strong on both of them thought!

The post prior to the one you shared. Selective intervention potentially taking place now?

The explanation they gave is that the carcass was very close to an accommodation and the smell was disturbing, so they moved it from there and it was close to where he was (k4), whether it was intentional I can't say but maybe he was just lucky to be close, especially because It would take a bit of work to move the carcass to it, doing it for that purpose and even against the non-interference rules doesn't seem like the kind of effort they would want to make

They had to move the carcass anyway, so it's not like they're making a proactive move to save some specific lion.

K4's eating, even though the giraffe is far from fresh, is probably a good thing, I just hope it doesn't backfire, I mean he left the carcass to begin with for a reason.

Ah, that certainly makes a lot more sense then. Thanks for the clarification, apologies to fellow members for the confusion I caused. Will retract my previous post.
