Kambula/Ntsevu males

Idk what is so strange in nomads sharing kills with other nomads, especially when theres plenty of food for all, as we can see Kambulas are full.

Pretty normal behaviour.

Food is sometimes 1st priority (over fighting and territorial stuff), because of it we sometimes even see territorial males sharing kills with other lions.

Kambulas fighting those lions means absolutley nothing to them.

Kambulas "tolerating" other nomads on a kill :

From left to right - K5, K4 and K3 attacking, K6 on upper right leaves before attack.

Good to see K3 initiating attack, roaring and then attacking again from behind.

Since he was attacked by Gijimas ~ 1 year ago, he struggled with condition/limp and confidence, often not following his 3 bros and staying aside with sister.

But now he looks great, looks like his confidence is back and he prob returned back on place as one of strongest/leading members, where he was before.

Kambulas finally showing a united front is really good to see. Have these nomads been identified, for sure? I know it was mentioned they might be from the Hamiltons Pride, but I did not see that was for certain. I hope the SBDM doesn't get mixed up in a scrimmage like that. One thing this implies to me, is it is even more doubtful than before, that the Kambulas will much less likely to accept any outside parties to their group. As was mentioned, sharing a meal with other nomads is one thing, but to allow other lions to join them is something entirely different. We may see the Kambulas become territorial/dominant in the near future, or at least make such an attempt. When they do, it will depend on when and where they make their move.

Attacked male apperantly is BDM, but Kambulas left and he eaten afterwards, which is good for him.

I now see this, from the SS thread. I always start bottom to the top, when reading new posts, in this instance it came back to bite me. Suppose I should have waited until I read them all.

?? Insane?

So you want them to kill that poor male for no reason, just to show "us" how strong and agressive they are? So we can "value" them more?

This is not a game who is stronger, bigger, more agressive, who killed more lions etc.

This is animals surviving best they can.

Did u see the word kill anytime? Quit that.

Nobody is asking them to prove anything, im just stating what i thought, how do you seem offended with that???

It's not the first time you come with this talking trying to make it seem like we want them to kill other lions, sorry for the words but thats absolutely bullshit.

Apparently ur reading whatever you want to understand from it? Notice the words "amaze me" and how i never typed kill there. Seriously?

They are a impressive group of male lions, totally skilled buffalo hunters, strong specimens. But even getting to their prime (6 years in the case of the 3 older) they still refuse to actually deal with competition, always tolerating solitary males in their kills is not really common, is it? (taking into account the amazingly big advantage they always got upon other males, but always keeping their cool).
Notice the word amaze me and dont assume it yourself that ME myself want them to kill anyone this time, please  Grin

Can we please chill.

Piety means devoted to religion. I guess in this context its intended to mean more pacifist or monk like lifestyle. And insane is often used in context of it surprises me.

Its well established that this coalition is a bit of an anomaly.  They are probably just a bit on the later end of the age of becoming territorial spectrum, but nevertheless showing us a part of lion behaviour we don't see all that often.
And yes, usually when big coalitions like these feed there is not enough food to go around so seeing them tolerating two more lions is also something we don't see often.
Though part of that is probably also because everyone always obsesses on the most violent of the violent lions. So coalitions like these often end up forgotten.

Pacifism is also not necisary a good thing. While its never nice to see a lion tear another lion to pieces. Its also important to protect the cubs they are raising and helps stabilise an area.
So a coalition to afraid to bloody a paw can be a big problem in the long run. Seeing that by numbers alone these lions are likely going to take over a pride regardless. It would be a relieve if they start showing us they are ready to defend one if needed.

Yeah i didn't mean to be rude or anything, i personally just don't appreciate someone "putting words in my mouth", thats just ridiculous. Not the first time someone seems offended when anyone expresses a different opinion on how unusual Kambula's tolerance seems to be.

I tried to put a word from my native language on translator and it gave me this lol. Didn't mean that, just tolerant / mercy

I mean, im not an specialist, i dont work with lions and have never even been in a safari at Africa. I just like following and keeping up with this animals dynamics.
And from my experience on coalitions of four+ in Kruger, none of them was as tolerant as the Kambulas, even when in their nomadic lifes

@Ngonya

I am sorry if you meant something else, but it didnt sound like it.

Again, to me this is pretty normal behaviour, (Kambulas are obiviously not territorial), as nomads, they are dominating kills, and when they have big kills, theres nothing unusual that other, submissive nomads, are trying to get a share.

In this example, BDM was not allowed to eat in their presence, he only get to eat after Kambulas dominated him and move from carcass.

2 Hamiltons young males sneaked in when Kambulas where activley eating or already full, sometimes lions just want to eat and digest, they dont care who is near them if they are not threat. These 2 young males are like 3 yrs old, no threat for Kambulas, and they where prob chased away after anyways.

And as for other cases of them "tolerating" other nomads, like S.Avoca, NK or 2 BDMs, it was in the same manner, with Kambulas dominanting the kills, while other nomads waiting their turn/opportunity with submissive behaviour.

Its not like Kambulas are cuddling with these nomads, it is well established who controls the carcass.

If someone approaches them without submissive approach, trying to dominate/take carcass, its 100% Kambulas would rip him/them apart.

Comments here would imply that Kambulas are some "annomaly" of male lions, that they would not "hurt a fly", which is nonsense.

They are male lions just like any other, brutal and agressive predators, its just that they are still not "mature" enough for territorial phase. Just like humans, lions and animals also dont mature the same.

true, i know their full bellies can even get them to be too lazy to put up some valuable effort against rivals, but even with all that it still somewhat a bit uncanny/weird for me.

I guess we can agree to disagree.
My hopes are that they will eventually start acting like the young males they are and start pursuing for a territory of their own, which they used to do back in 2023/early 2024 iirc.
