Male Jaguar at Fazenda Santa Sofia - Aquidauana - South Pantanal
Fazenda Santa Sofia (Santa Sofia Farm) had been in auction last year after the big scandal for it being used as hunting safari area for tourists where many of them poached jaguars and pumas but in 2011 the whole scheme have been exposed nationally here and it was quite shocking to see how it all happened. The ones who got the farm from the auction was a group of entrepreneurs who are setting up a private conservation corridor in the Pantanal.
The idea of purchase of the Fazenda Santa Sofia, the establishment of a biodiversity corridor where livestock and ecotourism will coexist in a sustainable way with resources from carbon credits and biodiversity credits came from Roberto Klabin, Teresa Bracher and the former racing driver Mario Haberfeld the founder and president of Onçafari project.
So now the beautiful Fazenda Santa Sofia is in good hands and recovering rather fast so we can appreciate its beauty at its fullest.
