Wow, they were handsome male lions, especially Stompie. He had such an incredible blond-maned and a very bulky body. Thank you for this great find Ahmed. Welcome to the forum

Yeah I feel the same. This channel steals pieces of video filmed by others and makes his own and never credits the person or anything. Also never has the correct description. I still watch the videos but I know now what he does.

Thank you.  I have trouble keeping up with who is who in Greater Kruger.

It's definitely not quite cheetah levels of all being related but sometimes we forget that there are only around 25k wild lions left in Africa in disconnected strongholds. In the Greater Kruger it is estimated a stable population of between 1600 - 2000 however given the severe denuding of wildlife across all species in the 1800's before the establishment of the park it is likely that the lions in the park share common ancestors not all that many lion generations removed hence the similarities in appearance, which is especially noticeable in males as being the more distinctive of the species.

Anybody else sees the resemblance? I see a big resemblance. Is there any Mapogo blood in the Forways pride?

Indeed! The resemblance of this Fourways male and Makhulu (in that Image you've attached) is highly. It’s quite curious how two unrelated males could resemblances a lot each-other, despite both born in different years and with unrelated bloodline. Maybe he only resemblances to Makhulu just in this image. Although still it's really interesting. Good one @sik94

Unless some new evidence has been unearthed, Makhulu's origins are still unknown.  There was never any evidence to back up Mala Mala's speculation that he was a West Street son from another pride.  It may actually be true, but no way of confirming.

The resemblance could be due to Makhulu's mother or father having some sort of relation to the Four Ways pride.  Makhulu may actually be related to the Majingalanes somehow.  Or the resemblance could just be a coincidence like you said.  I vote coincidence, but who knows.  Perhaps this discussion is better suited for the Mapogos thread.

Anyway most these lions in the South of Kruger are probably related anyway. Just from now you can see how these lions spread from matimba/matshipiri to torchwood/fourways, to styx going from sabi to s26 south, mpondo males starting at Mjejane and taking over all the way to Skukuza. Kumana males from Skukuza to Satara. And all the lioness they take over and are mixes of different males. But anyway seems like some old coaltion from the past had crazy black manes and it has carried still. Old Lubyelube, old sand river males, matshipiri, darkmane fourways all have it. Fourways pride obviously has great chances of producing black mane boys, from darkmane son of Majingilane, and now darkmaned fourways with torchwood. Would like to see the 4 sons of the 2 torchwood pride males and see if they carry dark manes also. Wasn't there a relation found of Matshipiri males and Old Lubyelubye in the past seen as youngsters hanging out together?. @Ahmed Ali didn't you show me something before on this?

As @Tr1x24 posted in the Sabi Sands thread, the light mane Gijima male is really looks like the N’was males, but who knows if they are actually related, we will need DNA samples to find out.

That is very interesting @"Brahimlegend" Our understanding has come a long way in a short time. In the Brothers in Blood documentary, one of the researchers said that dark black manes were indicative that particular male has a much higher testosterone levels, and that he expected the dark maned lion to win a fight as a result. I took from that dark manes were more a product of an individuals virility than genetics. I assume it could actually be both, with the increased testosterone being the product of genetics, and the dark mane being the product of the increased testosterone.

He was seen few weeks ago with a few unknown young males who are too old to be his sons. @"Timbavati" was Dreadlocks with them in the sighting you posted?
