There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

One of my favourite places to photograph. Every corner you turn there's another beautiful scene. Even mid day when the giraffes stand under lone trees on vast open landscapes with storms building in the background.
The magic of East Africa is addictive... beware!

"Goodbye Big Ole Boy. Karanja was the Maasai Mara's most famous of its forty or so black rhinos, famous for his age but probably more so for his magnificent horns which made him so easily recognisable from the rest.
Karanja was the oldest rhino in the reserve, and died of natural causes yesterday at the age of about 44.
He was one of five founding originals of the Solio Game Reserve in Laikipia, established for the conservation of rhinos in 1970, before making the Maasai Mara his home.
He was a rare living link from an era when rhinos were still common, and just as much as it was a privilege to see him his natural surroundings, it becomes a relief to now know he completed his life naturally.
The rangers removed his horns and left his body to nature.
3:00pm: A little news to add to my post today is that I believe Karanja is now on his way to Nairobi to be preserved in a museum."

Bison bonasus
Ronald Zimmerman - Wildlife Photographer
"Last night I returned from a trip to the Białowieża National Park in Poland to see the one of the last and largest remaining parts of the immense primeval forest that once stretched across the European Plain, and of course the European Bison (Bison bonasus).
I have photographed more than just bisons, but I will start with a photo of a male European Bison during sunset."

Masai Mara, Kenya
An angry elephant impaled a buffalo with its tusks, tossing it high in the air, before shaking it to death.
The unsuspecting buffalo had been snoozing under a tree in Masai Mara, Kenya, when a female elephant surprised him and he charged at her.
After the buffalo headbutted the elephant, she retaliated by digging her tusks into the buffalo and tossing it into the air with full force.
The extraordinary scene was captured by amateur photographer Kimberly Maurer
