thanks @Ashutosh

I remember T1’s case, it was sad. he had been injured prior in the year (february) he survived that incident, only to die later in the tragic hit and run case. he was a tiger often seen crossing the underpasses and highways. it was a sad ending for such a marvelous tiger that we were able to follow periodically over the years. also you’re right, even though these underpasses are good overall. they have their pros and cons. ultimately i think more of these will help the wildlife tremendously in the years to come. i’m one of those people who started following the lives of these animals a little over 10 years ago or so, population back then was odd 1000 + tigers and in the last decade so much has changed for the better but there are also a lot of issues that need to be addressed. rampant poaching is still one of the biggest threat next to dangerous roads and highways unfortunately.

Chanda Tigress from 2013 (mother of T120/Yoda)

A tiger that has changed our perceived notion of tiger behavior in recent times is T-120. Ever wondered where the legendary tigers of today got their awesome genes from? In a series of throwback images from the past - way back in the past, let's take a look at these legendary tigers who created the hulks of today.
Meet Chanda, mother of T-120. Chanda is the first litter of the legendary T-19, Krishna.
Fathered by T-3, Bahadur, and T-63, Chanda, T-120, the legend of today was born. Now we know where he gets his deadly looks from.

Pinstripe male of Kaziranga from yesterday’s sighting, easily one of the biggest male tiger out there. Nov/2022

@Roflcopters , Kuhani / Shiva's cub is looking good. Have the cubs separated from their mom now and living independently? I guess there were 3 cubs right? Have they been named yet?

two males and 1 female if i’m not mistaken, the cub i posted is named “Raja” and i don’t think the other two are officially named yet. also they are just about old enough to disperse on their own.

Thanks @Roflcopters for sharing the info.  Like

The Prince of Khitauli - Chota Bheem ???

He is one of the most docile males I have come across in #Bandhavgarh ? and incredibly comfortable around vehicles. Born to Mahaman Female (Sr.) and The Legendary Bheem, this guy covers a sizeable territory in Khitauli and Pachpedhi

On several occasions he has been seen mating with Tara, Katibaah, Darrha Bachi and Bajrang’s sister.

It is unclear whether the first litter of Tara was fathered by him or Muda Tara Male (or both) ?

Mighty Bheem, the father of Chota Bheem. his legacy continues!

I’m not sure if many of you are familiar with Bandhavgarh’s history, it was officially declared a National Park on March/23/1968 and it was widely believed in the 70’s that there were no tigers. Banka was one of the first male sighted in the late 70’s, Banka believed to have been born in the late 70’s took prominence in 1983 and ruled the park until 1991. Charger, who most of us know appeared and took over from Banka. he ruled the park 1991-1999 & died in (2000). this continued on to B2, Jobhi, Bheem, MR X, Mahaman and countless other males that we now know. all of these tigers are the direct descendants of Banka, Sita and Charger.

here is Banka from (1985, all pictures shot from elephant back on 35mm reversal film recovered digitally and minimally processed for color corrections.) Credits to Amit Kher for the photos.

@Roflcopters  , Looks like Paras has been badly beaten up by Taru. His chest injury visible and he looks weak in the image..... I wonder how Taru and Rudra would stack up against each other.

Also that leg injury of Hirdinala Female is also looking quite bad, was it caused by this 'SK' male?  Tough time for her, hope FD officials take prompt action.

Paras does look like he’s in a really bad shape, let’s hope he recovers from this. also i don’t know if Rudra and Taru would ever come face to face. Chota Dadiyal despite being a sub adult is getting stronger as the days are going by and if he survives this critical age. i have no doubt he will be the ruler of teliya region. so much is happening in Tadoba. it’s really hard to say.

*This image is copyright of its original author

when i first saw her picture, i wasn’t sure but after reading this. it all makes sense now. most likely a serious fight with SK male where she broke her rear leg. it will be pretty tough to see those cubs make it through this. fingers crossed. also i wonder what happens next with Shiva. these two brothers in Pangdi buffer are going to cause a huge problem for him.

Sigh of relief - Maneater Tigress which killed 5 persons recently in Dudhwa Buffer zone has been finally captured by the Forest officials. She has been brought to my home town Lucknow for observation. The reason found to turn Maneater was cleared by the forest officials that her left Cannine was broken and she was quite old which indicates it's inability to hunt natural prey in the wild. At present the Tigress in quarantine under the supervision of veterinarians and expert keepers of Lucknow zoo. At last i feel happy for the Tigress and ? for the foresters. Experts feel that when fit it can be released back into the forest. July/2022

Nature is amazing. Absolutely amazing, rather no language is rich enough to describe it. What not is on display here. Prey, predator, camouflage, river, hunting technique, innocence, life, death, a very tense situation, prey was unaware, predator is unsure, total hide and seek game. The most wonderful thing is that one was there to witness it , courtesy Deepak Dhayani ji, one of the best guides of the country.
It was scorching heat of the summer and Tigeress was cooling herself in the river and all of a sudden she spotted the deer coming near the river and fully ignorant about the predator waiting to pounce. Tigress further went inside the water and hid herself behind the boulders on the bank of the river. The drama lasted for more than an hour and it was so tense and full of suspense that one cannot describe. These are once in a lifetime moments. Deer was totally unaware of the lurking danger just a few feet away. Such are the ways of nature. A chase which one witnesses once in a lifetime.
The moments you live for and the moments you die for. What a situation... what a scenario.

Ramsingh Gurung with the late Dr Charles Mcdougal measuring the skull size of Island Bhale. a notorious male tiger that once roamed the forests of Chitwan. 2012

*This image is copyright of its original author

Island Bhale sired 7 cubs with CP2 female (two litters) 3 cubs with LP3 (one litter) and 3 cubs with SP7 female (one litter). total of 13 cubs with 3 different females.

I peeked the chart and realized Nuna Bhale and Eastern Bhale were also on the list.

Nuna Bhale sired 10 cubs with AP female (four litters)
3 cubs with BP3 (one litter) 2 cubs with LP3 (one litter) 9 cubs with RP2 (3 litters) and 12 cubs with TP female. (four litters). total of 36 cubs with 5 females.

Eastern Bhale sired 10 cubs with LP3 female (three litters) 4 cubs with CP2 (one litter) 9 cubs with LP3 female (3 litters) 6 cubs with SP7 female (two litter) and 5 cubs with TP female. (two litter). total of 34 cubs with 5 females.

Eastern Bhale was easily one of the biggest male from his era and by far the most successful tiger on a specie level from the Nepal side.

WTI's #RapidResponseTeam (RRT) and Pilibhit forest department rescued a female tiger cub that had taken refuge inside a vegetation patch in Pilibhit district, 500 meters from National Highway 730.

It appears the cub had strayed and separated from the mother. Being very young, and unable to hunt on its own, it had taken to scavenging livestock carcass that were dumped in the vicinity.

The team scouted the nearby area, looking for the mother or other cubs for nine days, but to no avail. Finally the RRT and forest department team successfully captured the young tigress, conducted it's medical examination, and safely sent it to Kanpur zoo.

The operation was a part of WTI's Terai Tiger Project supported by Chester Zoo , U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Uttar Pradesh Forest Department.

Tigers of Nowhere!

Tracking tigers outside protected areas is a happiness of highest order. This #terai tigress along with her sub adult cubs reside on the boundary of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh states in a small forest patch of the Surai Conservation Area adjoining the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve. They live along the dry nullahs and hide in the culverts and sugarcane fields and 'try' to coexsist alongwith disturbing human neighbors. Encounters do happen - mostly positive rarely conflicts.

Truely said, there are more tigers outside our national parks than inside. Dec/2022

India's record size (claimed) Man Eater Tiger of 10'6" shot at Chandrapur, Maharashtra in 1938 using the 0.465 rifle, by Nawab Sultan Ali Khan Bahadur.

interestingly, Wagdoh male ruled this area towards the end of his days and actively mated with both the females in the area and had cubs with both.

Wagdoh’s route map from the time his movements were actively recorded by the Tadoba FD. prior to this, it was believed that he was a cub of the big zari female and probably fathered by Shivaji in year 2004. whether this is true or not. nobody knows.
