Footage of the second litter of jaguar cubs born in the Iberá wetlands of Argentina

Karai and Pora, the jaguar cubs born weeks ago in Iberá Park are already touring a sector of the forest under the watchful eye of their mother. In this way they begin to get to know the different environments where they will spend their lives.

Karai and Pora are the second litter of jaguars born in Corrientes after more than half a century of being extinct in this province.

The jaguar is not only an essential species for maintaining the health and integrity of natural ecosystems, but it also has the potential to become a prime attraction for tourists visiting Corrientes in search of its wildlife and natural landscapes.

Korai and Pora are the second litter born in the project to be reintroduced into the wild. The first litter was mothered by Tania, the same female that is being currently used to help populate the Chaco region as well. She's a pioneer and keystone player in both of these very important milestones.

The Iberá wetlands were likely another ecosistem in which jaguars attained very large sizes, similar to the Pantanal, as the environment, prey elements, and prey congregations were very similar to the Pantanal. The population was later exterminated due to poaching and hunting.

NORTHERN PANTANAL

I'm posting the profiles of some very large males from the Porto Jofre region, some of whom we only know by a few photographs and were registered just once or twice. It's my opinion that these males are at least as big if not bigger than popular jaguars from the area like Adriano, who was known for his size.

Recreio, Tito and Bravo look particularly massive to me, with similar facial proportions to Lopez.
M15 was captured alongside Peter, Cage's brother, and we're hoping to get his weight assuming that he's not one of the unnamed males given by Tortato already present in our database.

When I saw this pic of Recreio male the first thing that came to my mind was the old male relaxing along with a younger male on the truce moment and I knew it was him, This jaguar is way too familiar for me but I wonder why he got that name ''Recreio''  Funny .

Recreio relaxing with his younger fellow.

I confused her with Edno due to their similar forehead pattern and the apparent large size this female also has. We know pictures can be deceiving but nonetheless this one does show a huge female with a thick chest.

NORTHERN PANTANAL

Important clarifications to make regarding relatedness of certain jaguars in the Pantanal.

Despite misconceptions, Iko and Katu are not siblings or related in any form, this was cleared out by the genetic testing performed on them when Panthera captured them, shown in the book Jaguars of the Northern Pantanal:

*This image is copyright of its original author

*This image is copyright of its original author
This is a very interesting dynamic among male jaguars, that similar to male lions, are able to form coalitions even when both males are not closely related. Furthermore, it is interesting to witness the high levels of tolerance unrelated males have with each other to the point that they will share kills (i.e. Ramses and Aju).

Another misconception to clear out is who "Holyfield" male is, which we know based on the Jaguar ID Guide to be another alias for Katu/Peter male. Some photographers seemed to have confused "Holyfield" with the jaguar Hopkins and given him that title instead. Here I'm posting the profile of Hopkins for reference:

*This image is copyright of its original author
Hopkins fought with Geoff once for access to a female, and that's where that very famous picture of him growling and exposing his large canines comes from.

SOUTHERN PANTANAL

This stunning and handsome male was seen at the end of 2011 by the Miranda river. I have to say to this day this remains one of the most beautiful jaguars I've seen, not the stockiest or more robust, but with very well-balanced body proportions and frame:

LLANOS

Totin is starting to look great, for a 3 years old female she's looking very well fed and stocky. I didn't know she had another cub besides Lulu but here she is with Cubiro!

EDIT: Turns out Lulu is actually Cubiro, initially it was thought the cub was female but as he grew they noticed it is actually a male and his name was changed.
