COSTA RICA: "And here is the King, Shāhdosa, taking a nap just in front of my camera trap! This is a screenshot taken from a video, and so I can tell, he stayed here for a while! This beautiful male is my jaguar number 4 and he’s pretty big! I hope to see him in person some day...

Just to be clear, I will not reveal the exact location, just keep in mind it is occuring on the Osa Peninsula - Costa Rica"

LLANOS:

Here are some older males from Aurora Reserve that haven't been seen recently and may have deceased or been pushed out of the area by newer males like Faculto or Caricare (they could also just have avoided camera traps).

Pajarote: male registered for the first time through camera trapping in 2014 by Panthera, here are his profile angles and key rosettes that set him apart:

Librao: he was also registered in 2014 and was last seen in 2017, his profile:

Capture from 2015:

Mapurito: registered in 2015, large male of similar size to Librao:

Carrao: newer male in the area and might still be around, first registered in 2018. By the only picture posted of him he appeared to be a younger male, perhaps 4 years old, and might be dominant in the area right now if he was able to stick around and establish a territory, though no recent pictures of him have been released:

I'm not sure how recent this is, hopefully it's true but the Pantanal has been on fire the past few weeks so everything is up in the air at the moment.

@Pckts I believe this is the large male you saw on your safari.
I saw Balam, the brothers and Marley. I also saw another massive male dragging a huge caiman through the dense grass but we couldn't ID him.

@Pckts this male you shared with us is Aju, so you can add him to your list as well.

Then I saw Aju not Balam if he's the same as my shots below.
That photo above wasn't mine, that was from Paulo when trying to ID the male we saw.

@Pckts if you look at his rosettes on the front of his forehead you can see the pattern matches with that of Aju, especially on the right side where he has a little line besides the butterfly shape. His face is also longer while Balam's is more rounded, Balam also has that dark counter around his eyes like Tusk does which give him a menacing appearance, in Aju the contour is thinner:

Unfortunately my shots are too far off to ID so all I can go off of is the Ear.

The Jaguar @Pckts saw was Aju.

Those front pics a bit far off  I still can see a few patterns tiger-like stripes over his chest and limbs which I can compare with another pic of Balam on the same position, but I will do it with another pic of his right side taken by pckts.

I am gonna leave a single pattern on the center of their bodies circled in red so you guys can compare with his surrounding patterns and spots with ease.

Aju male

*This image is copyright of its original author

pckts photo male

*This image is copyright of its original author

Now focusing on the photos above by keeping an eye on that specific rossete with one spot in the middle circled which is already the same on both jags look closely the surrounding rossettes and spots, you'll see both animal's rossettes perfectly matching as well as his front limbs patterns, note their underbellies spots as well.

Now look without the red circle.

*This image is copyright of its original author

*This image is copyright of its original author

I will now include more pics of Aju to compare with the male of pckts photo to make it more clearer.

This is a kinda similar position. Can you see that rossette with one spot in the middle that I previously circled in red?? its there in the center of his body.

*This image is copyright of its original author

*This image is copyright of its original author

*This image is copyright of its original author

*This image is copyright of its original author

Now since you already know they both the same jaguar. Let's now compare him with Balam himself.

On Balam bellow Pay the attention to his six spots outside rossetes circled in red, use it as a base referrence just like the one I showed above.

*This image is copyright of its original author

*This image is copyright of its original author

With no red circle you already can see those spots on Balam's body by yourselves.

*This image is copyright of its original author

*This image is copyright of its original author

*This image is copyright of its original author

*This image is copyright of its original author

And now try to see if it matches to Aju's body.

Balam

*This image is copyright of its original author

Aju

*This image is copyright of its original author

Now on the Left side.

Balam

*This image is copyright of its original author

Aju

*This image is copyright of its original author

Those patterns above don't match at all.

Now regarding the other picture taken by Paulo I already saw he isn't Balam either.

First of all focus on these specific details on Balam.

*This image is copyright of its original author

These pics bellow they look like each other and I get pckts confused them but pay the attention to the ''tiger-like stripes'' of both cats on their right forelimbs, both stripes are placed around the same area however they take ''different directions'' giving away they aren't the same and Balam only got one long tiger stripe on that region whereas the other male ( Aju ) got 3+ very narrow stripes going from his right front limb all the way up his chest which will match and link with the ones on the other side of his right forelimb ( they're the same ). It is clearly possible to see them on pckts pics of him from his front far off.

Paulo photo's male.

*This image is copyright of its original author

Balam.

*This image is copyright of its original author

Also still focusing on the photos above regarding the rest of his body since there's a plant in the front of the middle part of Paulo male's body check their hindquarter patterns they aren't matched either as well as their faces which have already been discussed here so I won't get too in depth on that area.

Now to wrap up grab this photo bellow of Aju and bar his front right forelimb due to the water splashing making it blurred to see in details, check his body patterns and compare to that Paulo's male bar the plant in front and note at least the areas you guys can see it will decently match unlike that of Balam's.

Ajó male

*This image is copyright of its original author

Paulo photo male

*This image is copyright of its original author

Now lets do the same compared to Balam's. Note they won't match at all.

Aju male

*This image is copyright of its original author

Balam.

*This image is copyright of its original author

So the male pckts saw is the same as that male Paulo took photo of, its Aju male.

Too bad I could only get those shots of Balam on his right side, Now if you guys got a better zoomed up pic of Balam on his right side it'd be much better and will make my point even clearer.

Yes I know. On my post above I mentioned that I wouldn't get too much in depth on the facial area since its already been discussed by you guys.

Its indeed Aju.

The side profile shot is much clearer and it's definitely Aju.
I wonder if Balam was the male we saw dragging the huge Caiman, because he looked even larger than Aju.
Aju is huge btw, much larger than Marley.

@Pckts it's actually great that you saw Aju because it gives a better idea of his size as he is not a well known male. I'm guessing he's around the same size as Adriano, bigger than Juru but smaller than the big three: Balam, Tusk, Edno.
