I love the size and thickness of Bheema's neck and chest. And the same goes for Umarpani, although he's a bit more hairy.

Gorgeus tigers.

Its hard to imagine Kanha without Munna, i pray that he's safe out there. now that i think of it, 2016 was an end of an era for most tourism zone rulers.

1) Bamera gone
2) Machli gone
3) Wagdoh near retirement
4) Raja near retirement
5) Munna near retirement
6) Baghin nala gone
7) Jai missing
8) Namdev never resurfaced in 2016
9) Katezari wasnt sighted most of 2015 or 2016
10) Kankatta is gone

the new Era has already begun, it will be hard to not see all these faces anymore.

Waghdoh Male in 2010.(TATR.Dec2010)

This was when this famous tiger first came into the scene in December 2010 for visitors. He was extremely shy and usually used to remain in Waghdoh area.He had made a kill near Vasant Bhandara,Mohurli but used to go inside before the gypsys could reach the spot.I took a last chance and went straight to the waterhole(ignoring a family of sloth bear with 3 little cubs on the way) and this is what I saw!A HUGE male named Waghdoh! The sighting lasted for only a few seconds and he vanished before any other gypsy could arrive! He is now a legend.Coincidently this was my first image with a SLR and also perhaps Waghdoh's first image by a tourist.Thought of sharing this.

Indranil Paul No Mihir. This is from 2014 at Vasant Bhandara. He is now moving around in Katezari and that route is closed for tourists.

Hopefully he is still moving around Katezari, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

The Fighter!(TATR.June 2016)
I was probably the first person to photograph this X male (later
named Gabbar) in the park in January 2012.He was young, handsome and charismatic! This photograph depicts all the hardship he has gone through from that period to this day!The scars, the injuries tell you the story. He was driven back to the fringes of the park, but he is back again,Bigger and Stronger!A Fighter in the real sense of the word!

I hope its not true, theres a large number of tiger population in the direction where he headed so you cant rule that out and the fact that they have no clue because of all the radio collar failures.

I hope you're right, the thing that worries me is that once the collar stopped working, Jai was never seen again. It seems to be a bit too much of a coincidence, he was such a bold tiger, for him to go missing is very scary.

Pckts, he had been collared for quite sometime now and while he did have major behavioral changes. he wasnt really the type of tiger to completely avoid human contact, im of opinion that he walked out in search for a new territory and left everything behind for his many sons to rule. (Umred is crowded and in the end. I think Umred is going to turn into another Tadoba lake and Mukki of Kanha, Alot of people dont seem to realize that this was going to happen sooner or later. Brahmapuri and the surrounding area have a very large population of tigers and unless camera traps are placed to count each individual with their flanks, i wouldnt believe anything.

Check post #986, the report explains the Brahmapuri situation better.

Wildlife Institute of India and Umred management has a lot of explaining to do, Jai brought in a large revenue to the park and wasnt just a tiger that people turned into a celebrity. He created jobs for the local villagers, tourists crowded the park and Jai was notorious for his huge size, he migrated from Nagzira to Umred originally, most of us watched him grow up as a cub with his brother Veeru, mother late A mark tigress and father Dendu.

Munna - On 1st October 2015.
There were talks that Munna won't survive the monsoon and probably won't be around this season. However, when we saw this hulk, there were no doubts that he is perfectly fit & ready to hold on to his territory for quite sometime.
He looked in perfect shape and I am sure will continue to be the photographers delight this season too as always.

NAGPUR / MUMBAI: A day after BJP MP Nana Patole expressed fears that the state's iconic male tiger 6-7-year-old Jai may have fallen prey to poachers, state forest minister Sudhir Mungantiwar announced in Mumbai on Wednesday that he would write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in the issue and also demand a CBI enquiry.

The 250kg-weighing Jai is missing since April 18 this year from the Umred Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary, located 60 kms from Nagpur, after its radio collar stopped functioning. TOI was the first to report on Tuesday that based on new facts emerging, forest officials too fear Jai may no longer be alive.

Mungantiwar said that he has asked four forest officials to inquire into the disappearance of Jai.

The Prime Minister is the chairman of the highest wildlife decision-making body in the country, the National Board of Wildlife. Patole tried to meet him but "I could not personally do so as he was busy". "I have handed over a letter to the PMO how Jai's entire family is now missing due to negligence of forest officials. This includes his grandfather Rashtrapati, father Dendu, sibling Veeru and mother Alpha," Patole told TOI from New Delhi.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, PCCF (wildlife) said in a press release that "nobody has substantiated with material evidence on Jai so far". "The death of Jai cannot be confirmed. It must have gone deep into the jungle for finding prey and water during monsoon," it said.

Experts TOI spoke to scuttled this saying water and cattle, which was Jai's favoured food, was available in plenty UKWS. The PCCF (wildlife) said that the forest department will come out with a statement once status of Jai — good or bad — is established.

Patole added that Mungantiwar spoke to him on Tuesday. "I told Mungantiwar that forest officials were misleading him," he said.

The MP added that on Tuesday he met state's chief wildlife warden Shree Bhagwan in Delhi. "He told me that Jai is alive. I asked him for evidence and if Jai has moved to China or Pakistan," said Patole.

Patole, who wants wildlife criminals to be tried under the dreaded MCOCA Act, said forest officials are passing the buck and "trying to bury the issue by informing the forest minister that search is on and Jai is still alive, but they have failed to come up with any evidence".

The search for Jai is on since the last four months. While forest officials have more or less called off their search, some wildlife lovers are continuing the operations and investigating every angle.

As reported by TOI on Wednesday, forest officers believe that Jai was electrocuted in a village farm and fearing acting two villagers had burned all evidence.
