Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. The Eyrefield pride and one of the Matshapiri males finished off the buffalo kill they made 2 days ago in eastern Flockfield. The other Matshapiri male was found about 1km west of their position.

Recently on MalaMala Game Reserve we witnessed a fascinating encounter between the Matshapiri males, the Clarendon males (Matimba) as well as one of the 6 lionesses from the Marthly Breakaway pride. Rangers Theo York, Tim van Vuuren and Pieter van Wyk talk us through the sighting.

December 31st.

The 2 Matshapiri males were found near West Street Bridge. The 2 Clarendon males are still with 2 of the 6 breakaway lionesses just southeast of Main Camp.

January 1st.

2017 got off to a roaring start. Yes, the pun was intended...

The Matshapiri males and the Clarendon males were at it again! The Matshapiri males clearly dominated the 3 hour long sighting and chased the Clarendon males a long ways north. The roaring was incessant during the high speed persuits and the older males were lucky to a avoid a physical 2 on 1 confrontation as both were found and chased separately.

Looks like its going to be tough for the break away lionesses...
two lionesses have cubs of just few days old... Matimbas must hold their ground for atleast an year to save the litter
Also other 4 lionesses were mating with Matimbas, many cubs are expected in near soon

January 5th. 3 lion sightings: the Marthly pride and both Clarendon males brought down a buffalo this morning near Stwise. The 2 Matshapiri males are mating with 2 of the breakaway lionesses on our airstrip. The other 4 breakaway lionesses were viewed along Steenbok Drive.
