Quote:Are the brimingham males still north near elephant plains or are have they got a pride they are mating with. If so where?
Yes, they hold territory there, Elephant plains is the north-west border. Prides they are dominant over are the Styx pride, and to some extent the Nkuhuma pride, but not fully.

Chitwa Chitwa Private Game Lodge:
This beautiful male from the Birmingham coalition came strolling across the open area in front of Chitwa Chitwa yesterday afternoon. He had a drink of water and then lay down on the dam wall. As soon as dusk started setting in he started roaring. He must have had a answer from one of the other males in the coalition because he just got up and started walking in the direction he came. Throughout the night we could hear them calling. When we found them the next morning they had a fresh buffalo kill not far from Chitwa Chitwa lodge.

For those of you who, like me, can't identify the Birmingham males(aside from the older and the younger ones) here it goes a way to ID them.
It was posted by Blair Sinclair, the pics are from Karin van der Merwe.

This is the oldest one Birmingham #1 aka Blondie he is the one who has been doing the most mating with both the Styx and Nkuhumas he is the biggest in terms of bulkyness/stockyness but not the tallest, the oldest and has the fullest mane

Birmingham #2 he appears too be the 2nd most dominant he has done the 2nd most mating after Blondie he was the one who had a sore left eye on Djuma during Big Cat Week his best Iding feature is his long face

Birmingham #3 he is the darkest male in the coalition however he appears too be the 2nd least dominant before Scrapper he has alot of scars and they are his best Iding feature along with his dark mane and floppy right ear

Birmingham #4 the tallest male in the coalition with a face very similar too #3 but a much Blonder mane he is now the most Blonde male in the coalition since Blondies mane has darkened but dont confuse them Blondie's mane is much fuller

The smallest and youngest member of the coalition Birmingham #5 aka Scrapper he has a bear like face and a scar under his left eye he also has the least developed mane

PJD Photography and Guiding:
Another Lion day.

For the past two days the Birmingham boys along with the Styx Lionesses, have been feeding on a Hippo carcass. The action thats been going on between them is amazing. Fighting, roaring and then of course mating. This morning it seemed they had enough to eat and moved away for a distance to rest for the day.

A sad event, turning out as one of the most interesting sightings at Nkorho. Would like to share some footage of the last few days around the Hippo carcass...

Yes, it is the older male.

No, the hippo died of natural causes, male #1 probably got injured fighting with some of his brothers for mating rights.

I was curious about how the hippo went down, not that a pride couldn't do it, but it would be a serious risk for any sized pride. The hippo was a large fellow..
