Nkuhuma Pride

I'll now cope with the impossible possibility of the Talamati and NK Breakaways uniting.

3 lionesses to rebuild their pride and the males would gain a partner.

@Ttimemarti the situation is a disgrace.

@Duco Ndona The subadult is 2yo already so RN can come in estrus in the next months so it's not totally hopess.

Extremely difficult but not impossible.

Omg, poor Ridgenose now will be a lone lioness.  Her last 2 years of raising just 2 youngsters almost in vain.  It will utterly be a waste if her son cannot become a successful male.  I really hate that this happened.  All is not lost yet if the male can overcome his sister's death and find a way to beat the odds.  We all know how lone males have it rougher though.... He'll have a lot to overcome.

Smaller prides have to navigate that fine line when in the territory of a coalition they are under, because that very same coalition can harbor other prides that will not hesitate to attack and kill rival females in other prides.  It's a very hard thing to do.  Maybe she got just slightly relaxed now that her subs are 2, but still, as they are a small pride, they are always vulnerable.

There was confusion in the identification of the dead lioness, the sub-adult was seen in the company of her brother this morning, without Ridge Nose, which could mean that Ridge Nose was the victim of the whole situation. (update given by Mariella castillo)

Another twist in still a sad tale.

I wonder what the young are going to do now.
With the inly adult death. The Mhangeni may stop pursuing them. Though the male sub will always have a target on his back.

The Manghenis will probably take their territories now. Even if the core pride doesnt, the pride will likely form breakaways in the near future which will take up the space.

The daughter may choose to go nomadic with her brother and with some luck she will find her own spot elsewhere. Still wouldnt it be great if she joined the Othawas?

perfect scenario for them to join the Ottawas... but with Skorro jr on their tail it could end in a bad way, I wonder now if if the PCM finds them they will persecute them especially the young male, in fact the Talamati separatists are very far from that area? unfortunately it would be worse if they ventured north given the number of nomadic males in that area at the moment.

Oh dammit. This means both Nkuhuma breakaways and sisters met their Demise at the hands of mangheni. RIP Ridge Nose. I’m lost for words right now Sad

I know she taught both of them well they are both extremely big for their ages just gotta stay out of trouble BUT joining another pride would be good for them I think the only one would be the talamati breakaway pride. Othawas might chase them

This makes more sense, as I found it difficult to believe that Ridge Nose would just run and abandon her daughter, even in the face of the whole Mhangeni pride.

Happy for her daughter....but for the pride, this is some ways even worse, since now this young lioness will have a harder time going solo initially....at just barely 2!  Not to mention she won't go into estrous for another couple of years.  Thank goodness she'll have her brother for support.  They can learn and hunt with each other for another 6 months to a year.... Then he should be moving on to build his own coalition and have a legacy outside of the pride.  The Talamati breakaway sub is the perfect age for him, Styx young male, too.

If only it all worked that easily.  I just hope these 2 move far away from the Mangheni's.  That pride is turning into the greatest killers in Sabi history....

What I don't understand is why the Manghenis keep catching them, now killing Ridgenose and her littermate sister?  Seems that the Othawas are closer? Or did RN and her AE get caught in another territory?  Might be that they ventured too far in hostile areas.  Is it because the Manghenis sense there are very few of them after catching them in what they consider their own land?  This pride does not really try to venture into Othawa territory and take over that area.....but what if they continue to expand and then try to steal the entire Western Sector.  Every single lioness will die at their hands unless the lionesses flee their natal lands for good, getting lucky to boot.  There is no way they can hold the west against 5 lioness, plus 10 growing/hungry cubs.

Coincidence probably. They may have been chasing lions the whole time with Ridgenose just being the first one they caught.

Well, this is not suprising, we have 4 prides on fairly small territory, and 3 of them are under same coalition so they hang on even smaller territory together.

Obiviously strongest pride have advantage over weaker ones, this is how it is, especially when numbers are so uneven.

From Othawas outmuscling Xinhungwes, Mhangeni subs, to more recent times and "Ximhungwes" revenge on decimated Othawas.

2 young Othawas also had few close calls with Mhangenis not long ago.

Props to both Amber Eyes and Ridge Nose, both prob died to save their cubs/subs.

Chela is now last survivor of 4 legendary Matimba daughters in NK pride.
