I think the cheetah didn't want to run needlessly (as they can tire fairly quickly) and didn't want to stop without having a clear idea how much distance is between them resulting in the cheetah looking back, so it appeared like it is waiting for him. Fair to say not many would be so persistent in the pursuit as Amahle did.

Sticking together.

Recently, the 3 Ndhzenga males haven’t strayed far from each other. They’ve spent most of the last month in the northern parts of their territory, ready to confront the 2 Black Dam males who are encroaching on their territory.
