There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

No, they don't know the relation between mating and cubs. iI took even for ancient humans a long time to understand this link.

It is all instincts. First mating urge, then as cubs are born, oxytocin forms attachement and other instincts urge lionesses to feed and clean cubs.

She doesn't even consider them her children after they are grown, just another familiar lion at best if the live together.

I mean, if Gingerella comes back, Sassy won't greet her as her daughter.

Although lions' behavior is mostly instinct, their entire behavior is not only instinct.

"It's been a couple of days that we followed up on the Mhangeni Pride who has been trying to hunt buffalo. Finally, just before the end of the afternoon safari, Andries and his group of guests managed to see the hunt in action where the 4 adults took on the big task of taking down a buffalo bull, and made it look effortless with the one female jumping on the back of the buffalo and the other muzzling the buffalo. The fight was over in a couple of minutes thanks to the rest of the pride holding the buffalo down.

This morning, on a cold and overcast morning, we followed up again.  Upon arrival, we saw one of the Mhangeni females tearing away at the stomach of the buffalo, busy opening it up trying to get to the soft nutritious lining. After opening it and feeding on what she could, she started scraping dirt over most of the stomach content to cover up the smell. The rest of the pride were all laying around with filled bellies and a grimace of satisfaction on their faces after their great meal."

Mangheni pride is a breakaway of Tsalala pride.
