There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

How old are these males? I know that they are aging and are at least 10 years old, but is known their exact age?

The old River pride males were born between 2005 to 2007. They're legends of the Timbavati and Klaserie, these two, are one of the most successful duo in the area by far

Yes you're right. The Mlowathi males were average sized lions, Like the other Mapogo males, except for Dreadlocks and Makhulu.

I do not think so. There you can read opinion of James Tyrell on Majingilanes and KNP males:
"Todd these are indeed very big males, definitely bigger that the Majingilane. They have been around our Southern areas once or twice more since this sighting, and their paw prints alone dwarf those of the Majingilane. As Thelma says, 4 vs 2 might be too much for them to handle if they do bump into one another, and with one of the Kruger males having a lame hip, it would be fair to assume that the Majingilane males would come out on top in an encounter"

and the opinion of Sabi Sabi guide Ben Coley on KNP male and 2 last Mapogos which even through very in good condition, they were defninitelly well past their prime:

"Thanks for all the comments everyone. I hope it was a fitting article for such an influential coalition! News from the fight yesterday morning is that one was seen briefly with quite bad injuries to his testicles amongst other areas…but we don’t know the extent of the injuries just yet. We did find tracks for one deep in south of the reserve this morning but couldn’t locate him. It seems I underestimated the Kruger males. Although the remaining Mapogo are larger, I can only posit that their desire has left them and they merely seek to live out the rest of their days in relative peace."

To be honest, I don't think in Kruger, Since there are roughly 2500 lions more or less. Which means that the majority of those lions aren't known and followed on a daily basis. Although, I'll dare to say, the oldest males in the Greater Kruger National Park (Manyeleti, Sabi Sands, Klaserie and Timbavati.

I dont think they are that old (unless theres some evidence of that), they sired Nharhu males in 2014, which means they prob took River pride in Klaserie around that time, maybe in 2013, and if we assume they where around 5 yrs old then, that would meant they where born around 2008, which is still impressive, as would meant they are atleast around 13 yrs old atm, age which very few male lions reach.

Is there any older photos of them, from younger age?

HB was born in late 2006 to early 2007. He was 14 years old when he passed away. A great achievement since not many lions lions don't tend to live more than 11+ in the wild due the competition by other males/young males

Could be the most likely scenario. I heard from a Klaserie guy they were born in 2005, I've doubt it. Although if I had to lean towards one it would be 2007. That's what i told to Umbabat owners a few years back while I help them with lion census in their area. I will talk with a friend who has spend his life in Klaserie. Let's see if the first guy was correct or not.

I found it! Here the lion research made by  Umbabat. It was really excited talk and being part of the Umbabat lion research last year via socialmedia.. I was very fortunate by give them a hand to Umbabat a hand with information the old River pride males  and Skorro males a few years ago.
Here I mentioned that the old River pride males were born in 2007/2008. Which means, I perhaps got the Klaserie ranger word wrong when he told me 2005.  My mistaken.
