Mhangeni pride with 16 members needing to feed on large mammals regularly! It has even become quite common for them to catch more than one buffalo at a time. On one occasion, they caught an adult cow, as well as a year-old calf, about 100m apart. Even one of the Majingilane males seemed hesitant to try and get mixed up in the feeding frenzy!  *This image is copyright of its original author  *This image is copyright of its original author  *This image is copyright of its original author After a large meal, usually the first thing they do is find some water. This is a photographer’s dream - to have a large pride drinking in a row - and the Mhangene pride does this quite often.
 *This image is copyright of its original author  *This image is copyright of its original author The pride consists of four adult females, nine sub-adult males and three sub-adult females, varying between 13 and 18 months old. With the good and consistent meals provided by the four mothers, the condition of the sub-adults is incredible, and the young males in particular are growing very fast. It is already obvious that this will be a formidable coalition if they all survive and stay together!

On quite a few occasions they moved much further east, demonstrating that they are still confident, and although they are getting old, are in good condition. They have remained with the Ottawa pride quite a lot this month since the pride lost the younger cubs, hoping to sire a new litter as well as score a free meal!

I guess the best part of my job is the unexpected and learning something new everyday.
This was an unbelievable sighting as we watched 3 male lions all share and mate with the very same female in quick succession. The last few mornings we have woken up to lions roaring, the Marthly Males are making their intentions very clear. They have chased the Avoca Males and hopefully become the new Eyrefield Pride males! About #1149: I saw the link at instagram you show... The fact that is disturbing is to feel that a field man can be so amazed to see this fact: three male lions sharing the same lioness. It's really "a first time" for him. But of course, as you tell, this is perhaps only because the three males haven't yet established an order of dominance. Perhaps other people witnessed this kind of behaviour for other young lions having just taken a pride.
MALAMALA TODAY: November 20th-22nd. 14 lions: The 3 nomadic males from the Marthly pride have been spending time with the youngest lioness from the Eyrefield pride. She was seen mating with all 3 males over the course of 2 days near Calabash Crossing. This lioness has never fallen pregnant, perhaps these up-and-comers can change her long run of bad luck. Members of the Kambula pride were viewed everyday. The Scar-nosed Manyeleti male was initially mating with a Kambula lioness north of Rattray’s Camp. The next day a second lioness was mating with the Matshapiri male close to Main Camp. Today, the same Manyeleti male was viewed with 4 Kambula lionesses south of Main Camp. The 2 Avoca males were seen in Jakkalsdraai Open Area.

We could hear them roaring from the camp itself, and we hope they stick around for a good while for us to view them!
