The injured Talamati lioness seen recently (today) in the morning (08:30 am) at Djuma in Sabi Sands. Her and the rest of the pride incluiding the Darkmaned Avoca male were feeding of a Giraffe kill,Nonetheless most likely or at least apparently this injury was did by a buffalo or antelope... Basing me on his facial featured, look like one of the Talamati females who were sired by the Selati males

(11-19-2020, 03:17 AM)Slayerd In my opinion Osindile has had a much more difficult life than Nkuhuma male.It was not always great for The Nkuhuma male but he has had other coalition males to bond with and his sister and other lions from Nkuhuma pride .Osindile/Birmingham Ngala male only has the Birmingham pride when the one Ross is not with the pride some people are starting to call that Ross male Tyson. Wrote: I've got a question for everybody. Recently the Birmingham Young Male lion was names Osindile which means 'survivor' in Zulu. A worthy name for the young male who had to survive the Ross Males and his leg injury that nearly killed him. Down south, in Sabi Sands, the Nkuhuma Young Male also had to face his own hardships and had to survive. He was also forced to face dominant male lions and on occasion, had to fight them to survive. He lost his mother and partner and had to look after himself for almost a year. The stress led to him losing condition and his mane until he found the Styx Pride. He is also a true Survivor of the bush. Both Males have similar stories and are similar in age but in your opinion, who had a much harsher life they had to survive through?

(11-22-2020, 03:08 PM)Nathan AidenHairy Belly is a true Icon and warrior.I am not taking anything away from him but just because the lions in the Mara receive treatment does not mean they don’t have it bad they still have to fight and hunt.If it were a part of the rules in South Africa to treat the lions medically they would be doing so.It is not the lions in the Mara fault that they care for them better can’t take anything away from in both countries lions have it tough in both countries. Wrote: As i mentioned lions in Mara and other areas receive treatments from vets and are saved in near conditions. The lions you mentioned above were seen by vets numerous times and monitored till they recovered.
Lions in Mara can live long due to this and there would be individuals who be as old as Hb no doubt.

I think we should give this title to HB as the oldest living Male Lion right now. As he received no help or treatment and survived the hard way. How he came back from a dead situation was unbelievable. Not once many times. Deserves to be recognised. Lived the hard way and surviving the harsh nature.

"Do you know if Hairy Belly is a Southern Cape Lion. They were very big lions and their is not many on record anymore. "

Hairy Belly oryginates from Birmingham pride in Timbavati Game Reserve. He is lion from Greater Kruger Park.

"I am not taking anything away from him but just because the lions in the Mara receive treatment does not mean they don’t have it bad they still have to fight and hunt."

SStill they have huge advantage over Kruger lions.

What did he acctually did? Were some of his comments deleted and I can not see his insaults or somethink. Wasn't he just banned for thinking that HB is 15 years old was he?

Okay, I never contested his claim on HB's birth outright.  Until I personally see evidence and/or speak to rangers who worked the year of his supposed birth, I cannot vouch for any date.  I'm just going by the general consensus, video clips of him, and what I think his age ought to be based a bit on his appearance.  Having stated this, I am keeping an open mind.  It's could be that his birthdate of 5/2005 was confused with another lion in his pride or coalition?

I never saw 'verified' photos or those with automatic dates showing month and year.  Maybe these were posted after I joined or I accidently overlooked them??  Anyway, even if those are verified legit for the year and month taken, there is still the issue of his appearance.  I have seen several photos of him when he was young claiming such photos were taken on this or that year, and the age that he was supposed to have been just didn't add up to his overall look to my eyes.  He either looked older or younger than he was supposed to have been.  I cannot recall exact ones as I did not save them.

Anyway, the difference between 5/2005 or 1/2006, won't show a huge difference.  The photos of when he was a few months old might give a better insight on a more exact date.

It's a shame there was no recording of birthdates of cubs for well-known prides back then.  Not sure if there is even that these days in the KNP and surrounding reserves.

Olbernoti's birthdate seems pretty uncontested and more reliable based on official recording at the park, I believe.  He is looking to be able to survive to at least 16, too.

Another Talamati lioness had similar injury half a year ago, but she healed by now.. It looks like just skin cut off, nasty injury but not life threatning..
