The three newcomers seen in Singita ain't wasting time.

Part 2 - After many days and nights of hearing the mystery lions roaring, we had our first glimpse of them.

We had seen their tracks where they slipped into the Matimba's territory and left the same night. Our first view of them which was late at night, was of all three roaring and scent marking.

Still young and not yet fully developed, without that charismatic dense mane of a mature male, are they being too bold?

Time will tell.

In the meantime, the Matimba male firmly remains the dominant male of the west and of the Othawa pride. However, interesting times may lie ahead.

By the looks, this 3 are the size and slightly older than Junior, prob 3 yrs old or so, still too young to take territory..

HB with support of Othawa pride has nothing to worry about still..

I think these 3 are trying to establish themselves in northern Singita, which is "no mans land" and thats why they are roaring and scent marking, to see who is around them and if somebody will respond, this is new area to them afterall..

I think they want somethink more. If they would think they can not compete then they would simply keep low profile and to be honest they hardly could find any better land for easy takeover. Mbiris looked the same when they chassed around Mapoza male so judging just by the size of the mane does not tell the whole story.

N'waswitshaka's roar and scent mark their area for about half a year now and they still didnt challenge any neigboring males, and they are older than this males, this roaring and marking doesnt mean that they want to challenge other coalitions any time soon..

Obiviously we didnt see them that well, but i dont think they yet have the power to challenge HB and Othawa pride (unless they isolate HB alone, which i dont think HB would do, at his age he prob wont go search for 3 young males on his own, which he might in his prime yrs) ..

Yeah, Those young males are very young still to challenge to Hairy Belly, HB is much bigger and tallest, I think still the size can intimidating to those inexperienced boys, At least for now.

" Early this very cold morning we could hear some faint calls coming from lions so we headed into the surrounding area and thought it could be a contact call. These two male lions must have lost one another and then found each other again as they popped out the bushes close to a watering hole where they stopped for a quick drink and then carried on with their morning. N'was did not roar or scent mark in neigoring males territory. Roar and scent mark are serious actions, clear statement of intention to take over lands.

Even if he would be twice size of those youngsters, still it wouldn't be enoght against three much younger, fiter males. Also we did not see those youngsters enough to judge their size. It may turn out that they are huge as well. Moreover such confidance at such young age is rather common to overdewleoped and oversized males like Othawa male, Charlestons or Mbiris. Just somethink to think of.

Nobody said that this males roared and scent mark on HB's territory lol..

Thats was on boundary with Singita, HB territory is deeper in western sector, he is rarely seen that far east, and as only 1 and older male, he cant patrol whole western sector..

Those 3 males at their age will most likely run when they see HB and any other dominant male, apperantly N. Avocas caught them and 1 male was limping in their first sighting..

They would run at the sight a dominant male, they would be overwhelmed even though they can physically probably take HB on.

"Nobody said that this males roared and scent mark on HB's territory lol.."

In theory yes, but obviously if they would try to take over they would not hold themselfs to such small arena as northen Singita, but would move further towards lands of Othawa male and/or Matimba male.

So I would have though if they would not roar. That thay do is showing that they have confidence to already fight for land. Other way they would just be quiet and enjoy northen Singita without bringing atention of nearby dominant males.
