Same here. It seems that the guide who located his remains, is speaking as though Nzuri is around, and well, I hope we can see some confirmation soon. The Tintswalo guides were the ones who gave the coalition their name, not only did they watch them grow from cubs, they then watched them as they controlled the pride. This must be really tough for them.

I really, really hope he died before the hyenas come across him, can’t think of a more brutal death, especially after already being beaten.

Mandevu will never go down as a legendary lion, he just didn’t achieve a lot in terms of territories taken over or cubs sired, but this was a male lion who seemingly never backed out of a 1 on 1 and was the primary protector for Mbiri Pride when his brothers were injured. He will always have my respect.

Sad news, really frustrating that the tintswalo coalition ended in this way, the succession of events put them in a position of continued disadvantage despite the numbers at the beginning. I hope Nzuri and young mbiri have better luck. I don't believe Nzuri will leave the pride now and with the Mbiri males focused on another pride he may simply try to avoid them but this in a way is bad for him as it makes his chances of finding a new coalition partner difficult. This would be a good time for the male Skorro orpen, or black dam sul to appear in this area and form a new coalition but being very realistic I would bet more on an attempt to expand Red Road.

Rest in peace Mandevu, may this put you and your brothers somewhere again.

Actually i dissagree.

I dont think "achievements" like number of offspring, prides, territory size, battle wons etc. are determined factors what makes male lions/coalitions famous and legendary (atleast for me).

Its their characters and stories which we follow, and often these types of "underdog/unlucky/tragic/unique" stories are more compelling and interesting to us, because in some way we can "relate" to them.

Mandevu's and Tintswalos story was like that, a rollercoaster of emotions over 5 years, which luckly we where able to follow regulary.

Just as, for example, Mapogos or Mbiris, "earn" their famous and legendary status thru battles, Majingilanes and Matimbas thru legacy, theres lions and coalitions who earn their famous and legendary status because of their story.

My fav sighting of Tintswalos:

I'm sad for him, poor guy was just starting his career outside the natal pride, seemingly with a bright future with his brother and the Skorro pride, then Ncila vanishes.

He joins Nzuri and everything seems to be working out again, then he ventures to Ngala and gets killed. He was still in prime, having good chances of siring and raising cubs, I hope his son and daughter can have many offspring to make up for it.

Now let's hope Nzuri can remain with the pride until his brother can go nomadic with him and the cub is at a safer age, as Idk how reliable the Mbiri males will be as protectors of the cub and pride.

It's a bit unbelievable that these over 11yo males who will be reaching 8 years in power in a few months, are still such a menace. Usually we see these younger coalitions displacing the old lions, it even seemed to be the case when Mbiris were consistently weak while Guernsey & Avoca gained ground, attacked the pride, maybe killed a few cubs ( including male white cub ), then suddenly Mbiri recover enough strength and kill the Guernsey male who was a bold prime male.

Now over 11yo they never get to keep their top shape for long, yet one day they're seen looking great and Mandevu is left for dead.

I didn't feel as bad for Guernsey since I barely knew him and at the time he was attacking the Birmingham pride, being a big threat to the cubs, so it felt like Mbiris were just doing their job.

But I'm more familiar with Mandevu and it didn't feel like Nzuri and him were a threatening Mbiris territory or cubs, so this just feels sadder for me and "unnecessary", but again, of course, Mbiris have no such concepts of anything and in their mind this is just normal business so I can't blame them.

A shame, Mandevu gone, one of my favorites, Nzuri, alone, it's brutal.

I agree with that, my point was more he won’t be recognised universally as a legendary lion. NK when it’s all said and done will be a legendary lion to me, no matter how little success he’s had up until this point of his life, bar still being alive ofc. He’s just got a story u won’t ever forget, and is the first male anyone will compare to any nomadic males who resemble part of his lifestyle.

We still dont know if this was done by the Mbiris or Mongawanes, not that it matters right now, but what really bugs me out it´s the people who are basicly asking for the Mbiris to be " eliminated" or wishing for their death like these lions are some reality show/movie characters, we all loved Mandevu, thats for sure, but just because wild animals acted like wild animals do, people seem to enter in such a ridiculous state of anger and revenge for these animals that turns into a point that its just sad to see
Even tho we only got like 2/3 lions sired by the Tinswalo, that doesn´t mean that their history wasns´t beatiful, it was great seeing Lambile joining them and getting adopted by their cousins, it was incredible seeing Ncila recover from what seemed like a deathly injury, it was great to watch them grow and learn how to be dominant males after they just basicly jump the nomad stage of their lifes and with so much adversity against them, sadly not all historys end in a positive way so to speak, but they dont always need to do.
As already stated the Nharus/Tumbelas started by being 5 males , the Tinswalo 2 + Lambile ( I dont know if the 4th male was also their sibling), all these 8/9 males sired by the same duo coalition (whom also had nothing close to an  easy life) had such a short amount of time in these world but yet for years to come we can´t talk about the regions they were in without mentioning their names, and that for me it´s what makes a legendary lion.
( Sorry for the broken english)

Agree for NK, although we cant forget legendary Solo Tsalala before him, who is kinda pioneer of that lifestyle (atleast first one we observed more closely).

Good point. Although at least some moved on elsewhere and didn't witness this first hand at least.

I remember the sighting of young Tinstwalos Tr posted the photo of, how things changed since then...

Mandevu's resilience is to be admired. He almost single-handedly carried his coalition for years, and when things seem to be on their way to improve, tragedy stroke the coalition once more with the sudden vanish of Ncila... And then when it all was getting back on track with Mandevu's new partner, Nzuri, once more bad luck got them.
What a way to go... As @KM600 said, i do hope hyenas didnt get him while he was still alive.
He fought like he always did, no matter if losing. I think theres no better way for a warrior to go down if not fighting.
Now Mandevu joins his brothers, and Tumbela is the last Thanda Impi coalition male offspring left.

I do hope Nzuri finds a coalition partner and perhaps leave the Mbiri pride, maybe all this inbreeding can stop for good now.
