There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

Nharu pride was a Birmingham Breakaway if I'm not mistaken, they had cubs fathered by the Thanda Impi males before being taken over by Red Road.

Mbiri pride was a breakaway of the Skybed/Caroline pride, some lionesses ( IIRC 4 ), sired by the 3 Old Skybed males formed this pride, they were sisters to the 9 Skybed males.

They were taken by their older half-brothers the Matimba males who sired 2 generations of cubs. Later the pride was abandoned by Matimba and taken by the Thanda Impi coalition who sired cubs there. After the demise of the Thanda Impis, the Orpen males took over the pride for a brief time, they died before their cubs were born. A litter of 2 survived, a male and female.

The Thanda Impi sons ( named Tintswalo males ), previously ousted by the Orpens took over their natal pride and have been ruling them since, but without much success cub-wise. Current composition of the pride is 2 Matimba daughters, 2 or 3 Thanda Impi daughters, as well as an Orpen daughter, with a 3yo subadult male, possibly a subadult female ( both sired by Tintswalos ), and a male cub sired by either Tintswalos/Nzuri or Mbiri males. Pride males are both born in this pride, Mandevu Tintswalos, the son of the Thanda Impis; and Nzuri, son of Orpens.

@Mapokser Thank you! I was wandering about the origins of Mbiri pride.

I read that you were talking about inbreeding in Mbiri pride. I think that could be the reason for the lack of fertility in the pride, since Mandevu seems to be mating with his sisters and his aunties who are already old...

Nzuri at least carry 50% Orpen males genes, but in case Nzuri were Junior's son, then he carry Matimba genes, as well as Mbiri females do.

As it was said before, I think the best for this new coalition, is to join forces with Tintswalo young male (who will be 3 years old soon) and take over a new pride in the next months/years.

Buddy, the other Orpen male, was in very poor condition and likely didn't mate when Nzuri was conceived. On top of that, Nzuri resmebles Jr Nkuhuma a lot.

Meaning both of Nzuri's parents were sired by Matimba males.

Mandevu and Nzuri at the Orpen Gate 3 days ago, they were with 2 lionesses, credits to Sammy Van Schalkwyk.

2 Mbiri females far from their territory or is this some 2 unrelated lionesses that Nzuri and Mandevu are hanging out with?

Someone might be able to tell if this is a Mbiri female:

Mbiri pride is chilling in Northern Manyeleti, sometimes moving to southern Timbavati to be with Mbiri males, so this is a bit weird. I'm willing to bet that it's more likely to be some other pride ( maybe Skorro females? ) which makes me worry that Mandevu and Nzuri may bump onto Mongawanes, I seriously doubt they'd stand a chance, especially since Ncila's last sighting was just a few hundred meters off a Mongawane male.

Hopefully if these are other lionesses they can leave if the two other male lions return. They were,  pretty strong, hopefully they are also doing ok.
