While my intention wasn't to declare any 'official' names for them, we already have named them. We call them K3, K4, etc. And the influence of this community is evident in the fact that Cedric referred to one of them by one of these names. I think it was K4. Which was why I thought, if people outside of this forum are going to use names that we use, maybe we should take some responsibility and come up with some better ones.

If the guides and rangers of whereever they end up settling give them proper, official names - awesome. But for now it might be good to come up with some other names to refer to them by.

As I said earlier, better to leave it to the guides, but from the names suggested here in that poll, the ones I liked the most were:

K3: Pale Eyes. Reason is that the only other fitting name I thought ( green eyes ) doesn't work because K6's eyes are more greenish.

K4: I don't like the ones about the tail, but Big Boy looked fine to me. I don't like Nhenha Jr because although he resembles Nhenha, he easily looks more like DM Majingilane than anyone else, not only that but although he'd be named as a "Jr" to one of his fathers, he'd still be carrying a name meaning "warrior" which although he is one, he is far from one of the most accomplished ones, his warrior trait is hardly special compared to any other lion.

K5: Grumpy is fine by me, his distinct face is his most interesting feature.

K6: Green Eyes looks good, his eyes can be quite greenish under certain lights. Though the idea of naming him based on the fact he's the youngest was very interesting to me, though I didn't like the names given in the languages I've seen here.

@adamstocks16

Ndhzenhas weren't given names by guides, they are fan names that recently were used by one guide or two.

And while a Singita guide did name the bigger PCM Makhunga, it was not an "official" name as he is the only one who uses it, which makes sense as neither Singita or the western lodges like to name the lions and in fact generally have a policy not to.

If the PCM establish themselves in the north then maybe the Northern rangers will adopt the Makhunga name since they like to name everybody and even adopt what the fans come up with.

@NLAL11 Not only Cedric, I've seen other WE Rangers calling them K3, K4, etc.

And not only WE Rangers, I've seen other northern rangers doing the same.

Basically everybody in the north uses these numbers. I just don't remember if one of the Londolozi rangers used them but I think Sithole possibly did.

Some good and valid points again, tbh I was just interested to see other opinions on the naming topic. The example I always think of of when it comes to these names is ‘Footloose’ for one of Caspers brothers in Shishangaan coalition. I’m sorry but this is just a ridiculous name for a lion. But it seems to get used by official channels?

Perhaps Zulu? Which results in

Ukulala (Quiet)
Umholi (Leader)
Uthukuthele (Anger)
Ungumngane (Youngest)

Or Xhosa.
Cwaka (Quiet)
Inkokheli(Leader)
Kwik (Anger)
Chrum (Youngest)

Though I recall the local native language is Tsonga. Which google translate doesnt cover.

Yeah Google translate, while a great start is not very reliable.

The Xhosa words for anger and youngest are "umsindo" and "ntondo", respectively. Cwaka is an onomatopoeia for silence so a more fitting name for "quiet" would be Zithulele

Of course, I would rather leave the official naming to the rangers, this was just a point of correction.

James got sent an 'identikit' on the radio (from FB apparently).

K3 - least scarred face/very unscarred face

K4 - scar above left eye

K5 - missing upper canine

K6 - puncture wound near right ear

When K4 had his head up James thought he must be K3 as he didn't have much facial scarring. So not the best identikit. He also joked about giving them all names beginning with K.

Very bad identikit I'd say.

Should have said:

K4: Bigger, fully developed mane.

K5: Smaller, mohawk style mane.

K6: Darkest mane, scar on his right eye, pale greenish eyes.

K3: This is the most difficult one, no idea, maybe pale eyes but lighter mane.

Easiest way to tell K3 and K6 apart (at the moment) is the mane, K3's is still very blonde. That could change though. You're right about the eyes by the way. I went back and looked at photos of them and K6's are properly green, while K3's are more of a very pale gold.

I would add to your identikit:

K4: bigger, fully developed (and somewhat dark) mane + scar above left eye and long face. He seems to have inherited Nhenha's big body and Dark Mane's head/face.

K5: Smaller, mohawk style mane + shorter face and missing top left canine.

K6: Darkest mane (for now) scar above right eye/temple area, pale green eyes, hooked scar next to right eye.

K3: More mane than K5 but very blonde. [Tattered right ear.] Easiest way to tell it's him is because he's not any of the others.

The more we can add the better.

To me, it always seemed K5 has round face/head ( I guess shorter face is another way how to describe it). It was more prominent when they had little to no mane, but still visible. I can't really tell the others apart, lol. That's what I liked about Ndzehnga, they were all very different, especially if you see at least two of them together (ha!) for size comparison it was hard to misidentify them (to me it seems Eorenji and Amahle look more and more alike over time).
