Three of the boys and their sister on WildEarth this morning. North-west corner of Djuma. K4 and K6, and looks like K5 judging by the mane length (lion lying flat).

Called them 'impressive boys'. But he also said (on this drive) that the Kambula males are big and impressive, with big bodies. So the PC males are big and impressive, unquestionably. But way bigger than the Kambula males? Not even close? That, in my personal opinion, is rubbish. Tristan also commented on the sister still being with them. Said it was very strange. 
Guides sell safaries to their guests and would be visitors online. So statements on size and impressivenes need to be taken with some salt.

These pictures are so amazing, but good lord it's hard to not be a bit tense at the moment for this whole situation that seems to be ready to unfold with this group directly front and center.

"Way bigger" usually comes down to "slighty" or "hardly noticable" bigger, when it comes to lion sizes. Comments like that take with dose of reserve. Remember PCMs how they are "way bigger" then Tumbela (who is smaller then Nhenha and arguably NK), and how they dwarfed NK male? But then when they attacked Tumbela, PCMs where only "slightly bigger" then Tumbela. Also how Hercules male is one of the "biggest" males in Timbavati, while 2 Ross males "smallest" , but when they encounter each others, Hercules was only "slightly" bigger then them. @NLAL11 I mean when the PCM first arrived in the West they were 4,5, already very impressive but certainly not as bulky as now where they're about to turn 7, in their absolute prime.

All 4 Kambula males and their sister in Djuma, they are looking great.
The males were scent marking and after sniffing something in a bush they did the flehmen response
Was just coming to post that they were back together. I don't think this is a today picture, but seems relevant none the less.
My only concern continues to be the odd relationship with the sister and that she keeps hanging around and how that will play out over the coming months as she certainly goes into estrus. |
