There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

@Balam

As a recall of our conversation a few days back in the jags thread here are a few melanistic Atlantic Forest Jaguars I found seen by camera trap in the Alto Paraná region where there's an important forest corridor which links two big conservation units in Pontal do Paraná Panema.

I think that Unlike in Caatinga specially in Parque Nacional Serra da Capivara where there's a very high density of melanistic jags above the normal, the Melanism on Atlantic Forest jags I think are a bit more elusive these days due to jaguars of atlantic forest in Brazil live in very isolated areas from one another and on top of that with very little individuals in many of these areas and with high risks of disappearing. So the regular yellow jaguars are already elusive let alone the melanistic ones, but the dark genes are still carried by the population in the biome.

Melanistic and regular Yellow wild Atlantic Forest Jaguars together from Morro do Diabo State Park.

I'm gonna take advantage and drop this big regular yellow atlantic forest male here too, he's from the same area and was captured I think by the team led by Laury Cullen Jr. in around 2017.

Balam is the name that the Mayans used to refer to the figure of the jaguar as one of their gods, it just so happens that Blama the jaguars is also one of my favorites too sit it was only right for me to take the name as well  Lol.

That last jaguar is impressive, and the melanistic one too, you can see its different body shape compared to the more elongated melanistic jaguars from Cerrado.

Oh thats nice I kinda noticed something different going on over your pic haha.

( This post was last modified: 08-02-2020, 03:00 AM by Dark Jaguar Edit Reason: I forgot to mention its a video not a pic. )

117 kg Tiago Cerrado male in all his majesty.

posted by Leandro earlier in January this year.

Despite not having his full set of canines in the fight to the death it had to be another really impressive Cerrado jaguar to physically take down this animal during the fearsome fight.

What an animal, this thing was full muscles.

VIDEO

Also if you guys watch carefully the footage of the large Northern melanistic Cerrado male Jaguar from my post #925 at 18 secs ( -0:53 ) you'll see he's the same size up there with Tiago. Their body frames are exactly the same.

NOTE: He is neither Urbano male nor the Other large Cerrado male who I said compares with Tiago in Frame. This new male is from a completely different area in Cerrado.
