MENDES

Nice pics of large great white sharks. Appreciated.

I recently saw a video about white sharks seen, and captured, close to the coast of Alaska. Although the video is quite recent, local people apparently were aware of white sharks a long time ago. If you have a bit more, feel free to post it.

In 2002, I was in Australia. Eden is a small city (large village) on the east coast. It has a nice museum that, at least back then, had the skeleton of 'Old Tom'. He was a male orca running a pod that cooperated with fishermen a century ago. One of the residents of Eden, a journalist, wrote a book about it. I bought it and posted the story and a few pics. I know it's a long thread, but read it before doing a post, Mendes. It will prevent posting pics that were posted some time ago.

As to your question on white sharks captured close to Alaska.

My advice is to google it or try 'white sharks and Alaska' at YouTube. The sharks captured by fishermen were large. A biologist who knows a bit more said the water is too cold for youngsters. Local people learned about white sharks the hard way, meaning some of them suddenly disappeared at sea. Also meaning white sharks knew about Indians hunting at sea in canoes. No mistaken identities over there back then, so it seems.
