@Roflcopters, the last Corbett male that you posted is Grasslandwali’s cub from previous litter (a litter of 3 male cubs). He is about 2.5 years old.

you’re right, the naming is a bit off lately. way too many Chota’s running around. Also, Jharni had 4 cubs from this litter, i believe 2 of the cubs died in early stages while these two brothers managed to survive. V7 was born Dec 2006.  *This image is copyright of its original author V7 & V6 (the duo brothers) here’s an old post by Jignesh Patel About his Bloodline (Male Tiger V7) A new male was sighted at kolara buffer area on 12th December 2016 near Kankajari Area in the afternoon game drive. One of the Guide Ravi Clicked his picture in an impression of Kankajari Male and showed to me that he got a good sighting of Kankajari male, but after looking for images it was sure that he was not a Kankajari Male after cross checking with old images from 2008 finally got his bloodline. He grew up in a high profile and photogenic family within a large happy litter. V7 grew up as part of a family of four siblings in 2008, under the watchful eye of a male Crooked Tail (Yeda Anna) and his mother Vasanti. Malika and Sonia were his sisters and V6 his beloved brother they all grew up to adulthood around the area known as Vasant Bandara. Seen often as cubs, they learnt to hunt together early with good coordination between the cubs, often bringing down large Sambar deer in the rocky hills of Jamunjhora. His relationship though with is sisters was never close, and as soon as they were sub adults they parted company and where then seen only in sibling pairs, with the two brothers keeping each other company until Katezari Male, a threatening and domineering male arrived one day on the scene, next day both brother disappeared and now in 2016 after a 7 years gap he was sighted in Kolara Buffer Area.... One more example. When Cubs have left mother’s range and not established range of their own is known as the transient stage. Female cubs usually carve out a range out of their mother. But the male cubs have to travel much farther to establish their range. They usually scrounge around the fringes of the forest for a few years, silently foraging for food and traversing the territories of many resident males. This is why mortality rates are much higher among male’s transient floaters than among females. April/2023  *This image is copyright of its original author T17/Bhanuskindhi injured Wildlife lovers want limping tigress rescued, treated Nagpur: Wildlife and nature lovers are demanding human intervention to save a badly injured Bhanuskhindi tigress (T-17) moving with four nine-month-old cubs in Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) buffer zone. The issue has once again stirred up a debate whether to treat injured tigers or let the big cats heal on their own naturally. On April 6 (Thursday) during an evening safari, a section of tourists had spotted the injured tigress with her four cubs approaching a waterhole with great difficulty in the Nimdhela tourism zone. The tigress was again sighted on Friday morning in the same area. “We were shocked to see the tigress limping. The four cubs followed her and watched curiously at the mother. The feline had suffered some injury on the right hind leg. The tigress somehow entered the water but later was unable to stand up,” said Sachin Abhyankar, a tourist from Thane. The videos of the tigress went viral on social media with wildlife lovers making an emotional appeal to save the tigress as the survival of four cubs depends on it. They (cubs) would suffer in case something untoward happens to the tigress, as per wildlife lovers. TATR conservator & field director Jitendra Ramgaonkar said that the area has been cordoned off and closed for tourism. “Our team, including wildlife veterinarians, is keeping a close watch on the tigress and the cubs. We are trying to find out whether the injury is due to natural or unnatural causes. “If the injury is due to natural causes, we will have to wait and watch as in the past such tigresses have healed naturally. If the injury is unnatural, we will think of alternatives. Tranquilizing a tigress with cubs in tow is a sensitive operation to handle,” said Ramgaonkar. According to the field director, many times such injures are inflicted due to porcupine quills or hunting prey. “We have to give them some time to recover. On June 3, 2021, an injured tigress in Doni in TATR buffer attacked our veterinarian when he went close to examine the injury. We are treading cautiously,” said Ramgaonkar. Tigers getting injured in the wild due to various reasons is natural. This is the fourth case of limping tigers in the last five months. In November last, the left foot of Tadoba’s Hirdinala tigress, which has two cubs, was completely twisted in a fight with a male. It got healed naturally. Similarly, a sub-adult cub of Tipeshwar’s Talabwali tigress was injured and was limping for days in February this year. Last month, Umred-Karhandla’s dominant male Surya was injured in a fight with another male. It is recovering slowly. “The case of Bhanuskhindi tigress is completely different. The cubs are nine months old and cannot hunt. From the videos and pictures, one can easily make out that the tigress and the cubs have not eaten for five-six days because the mother must not have been able to make a kill,” said tourist Sachin Abhyankar, an eyewitness. Wildlife lover Ankit Rattan said, “The condition of the tigress is certainly not good. I strongly feel park management should intervene immediately and take necessary steps to stabilize her as it is a question of the four cubs. Losing her would mean losing five tigers. Also, from the conservation point of view, her survival is important as we will lose a healthy breeding female.” In nature, it is the survival of the fittest, pointed out wildlife photographer and medical practitioner Dr Kartikeya Chaturvedi. “Even if Tadoba has a high density of big cats, a tigress with four cubs is a matter of concern. Tiger tourism is booming in Nimdhela because of this tiger family. April/2023 back in 2014, when he took charge from Wagdoh male. he was estimated to be between 4-5 years old at the time and now 9 years later. at the age of 13-14. he’s still a powerhouse, competing with some of the most dominant males in their prime and keeping up with them speaks volume about this magnificent tiger. for sure, in his glory days. (2014-2022) Bajrang was the face of Tadoba in all aspects. his territory size was the largest ever recorded out of any tiger that ruled Tadoba before him. in his prime days, Bajrang went undefeated against all the rival males that stepped foot in his area and the number of cubs sired by him remains uncontested in Tadoba (possibly all over India). he was also seen mating with 8 females in a single mating season and he sired 50 + cubs with 9 females. unofficial count of Bajrang’s cubs. He is one of the biggest males in the park and arguably has the biggest territory of any male tiger in the tourism zones. Our data extrapolation based on sightings and traditional game trails used by tigers estimates the size of his home range to be between 100 and 125 sq.km. And he also used one of the waterhole sites built by us. Unfortunately Bajrang’s territory criss crosses many villages and he relies too heavily on cattle as easy prey, which I pray does not bring him to his demise like many other tigers before him. April/2023  *This image is copyright of its original author The Tears of Jamni — Story of a Missing Tiger Cub Choti Tara, a legendary tigress from the circuit clan of Tadoba was spotted with her 5th litter, this time a single cub, when the park opened after the monsoons in October 2022. Sired by the young intruder Yuvraj, this male cub and his mother were spotted several times and delighted safari enthusiasts with their antics. During my recent visit to the woods of Tadoba in March 2023, on one of my full-day game drives, I too was blessed with their sighting and spent hours watching and photographing the duo. When first spotted, the mother and baby were sleeping inside the thickets, shielding themselves from the hot sun. Their refuge was near a natural water body and a visit to the latter upon waking up which would bring them into plain view was expected. We decided to wait. Summers in Tadoba are scorching and March temperatures rise up to 45 degrees Celsius. Those of us who go on full-day safaris in these temperatures are fully aware of the uncomfortable, tan-inducing, long waits that are part of the game. Our wait began at about 10 AM and as the hot winds seemed to slow down the passage of time, there was no sign of the mother and cub waking up. We hung around patiently but two and a half hours later we had exhausted the supply of water and buttermilk that our resort had provided us at the start of the safari. We decided to go to the gate to replenish our stock but before leaving, intuitively, I asked our driver to move slightly ahead to check if there was any movement. Just as we advanced a little, I saw the 6–7-month-old let out a little yawn — he was waking up! The water-refilling trip to the gate would have to have wait — we couldn’t risk missing an opportunity to photograph the duo! To our surprise, even as the Mother continued sleeping, the cub stepped out from behind the bushes and looked straight at us! That is a sight then has been imprinted indelibly in my mind and will always stay close to my heart! Just as my friend Shyam, his wife Jayashree and I were discussing how handsome this little feline was and how grateful we were for having spotted him, we noticed the mother arising from her slumber. A trip to the water body with her son was now inevitable, so I asked our driver to position the gypsy strategically to get some good shots of them in one frame. The picture posted here is the culmination of a 3-hour-long patient wait in the blazing sun! Over the next hour, the mother-son duo very graciously granted us several photographic opportunities before they headed back to the bushes. Only then did we realize how thirsty we were and drove off to the gate to refill our water bottles. That evening we had a phenomenal sighting of Queen Maya and Rudra but it was the endearing moments that this cub and his mother had presented us that had stolen our hearts. We left Tadoba the next day but I continued to inquire about Choti Tara and her cub, asking my driver and guide for their updates. In the week following our return, she was seen with her cub and surprisingly, with the cub of her daughter Bijili. The trio was photographed playing in a water body and although wildlife experts were excited by this uncommon scene they were not able to explain this unusual tiger behavior. But alas, little did anyone know the happy scenes were meant to be short-lived. Over the next two days, Choti Tara was found patrolling her area, incessantly calling out to her cub. She looked tired, pacing from one end of her territory to the other. The inference that wildlife experts have drawn from this behavior is that she had lost her baby. The cause of death remains unknown. Much like the grief of Mother Mary that echoed in the streets of Jerusalem when Jesus was crucified, this summer the meadows of Jamni will reverberate with the cries of Choti Tara. I have choked on emotions and fought back tears whilst processing this image and penning this write-up. The cub is gone but he has left me with memories that I will cherish for a lifetime. post by : Amal George.
